Pros

The employees at BP are generally good, talented employees. Unfortunately the direction from senior management was all over the place, so re-organizations became a yearly event. If you are a good solid employee that is willing to relocate for the company, however, your job is (usually) safe. They are pretty good at rewarding performance and recognizing their better employees. But as the overall company performance continues to decline, it is harder and harder to keep the good people. And as more good people see the writing on the wall, the more people jump ship...which just leads to a continued decline in talent....it's become a slippery slope.

Cons

Because of the declining performance of the company, many jobs have been eliminated and therefore the career paths of many people have become limited. Anyone coming into the company now won't have the many different options for career growth that used to be available. In the US, there are really only two places to work now (used to be over five) - Los Angeles or Houston. Employee morale is pretty much in the toilet now, and it will take a long time before that recovers. Until senior management gets their act together, it will be hard to see a light at the end of this tunnel.

Pros

Diversified work force - independence of taking decisions, satisfaction of achievement. It takes time, but eventually you are recognized for your efforts.

Cons

Too much process to follow. Not enough time given to master one process before moving on to the next one. restriction of employee hours you can use to run sites. Sometimes promises made are not followed through or kept up with. Wage base of hourly at site employees not at par with competitors in the similar field.
