Pros
The pros of working at Canfield Scientific. Well, I will say they have some great people who work there and the benefits package is good.
Cons
The main con in my experience was my manager. When you take a position, you hope to grow and show all the potential you can bring to the company. However, I found I was limited as to what I could do. I wanted to expand on my knowledge and skills from prior positions I held and couldn’t because of the restriction. I felt I had to ask “permission” for everything I did (including stamping a letter which “I couldn’t do” - to explain this, there is a code and in my position, I should have been able to simply mail a letter) and the major part of my concern was more than half the work I did, my manager had no involvement in. I mainly did scanning for her and would get asked how it was going. I have a master’s degree so I am pretty confident I am capable of scanning. I simply reported to the wrong person and essentially it made me quit. There was no growth in sight for me because she just wanted power and to micromanage and cared nothing about my career development. I felt as though I couldn't go to the individuals I was directly working for without "going over my manager’s head." Additionally, it was how she managed. I am a manager who believes in praise and motivation and helping employees reach their maximum potential. If you made one mistake, she would make a condescending comment like “is this what we do now in this situation?” I checked her work various times and there were errors; however, I didn't find it necessary to point a finger at it, I fixed it. I figured we checked over each other’s work for human error because well, human error happens. Overall, I was not able to grow which is a shame because it is a great company.
