Management - The French leadership was not perfect, but not bad either. The Filipino management, however, was awful. It was like I stepped into Mean Girls office edition. All the pettiness, the passive-aggressiveness, the lies, the bullying, the power-tripping, the double-crossing, I experienced it there. I would give specific examples, and I did try, but Glassdoor said The only difference is that nothing was resolved in the end even after HR found out about it due to complaints. I simply left GoFluent because I couldn't stand the high-school mentality. I felt like I regressed.
Here's an example of backbiting I really hated: It became practice for certain managers to hold an informal team meeting to complain about an employee they disliked whenever said employee was absent or on leave. I was appalled when I first encountered it, but for some reason, everyone seemed okay with it. Well, it wasn't okay with me. I reported it to HR because I think it was wrong for managers to trash-talk their subordinates that way. Guess what, I soon became one of the hated employees too. I realized why only a few spoke up.
Compensation - Such a pittance for the mess I had to put up with, but then again, I was a writer. My salary was fixed, unlike trainers who could earn more depending on the number of lessons they complete.
