It was difficult to advance from within the company. Meaning after years of service you could easily find yourself mentoring someone with less experience with a higher pay grade and status with the company. It felt as though tenure, skills, and value provided was not important when it came to "P level" promotions/raises.
If your goal is to start in one department (get your foot in the door) and eventually move into a different department/role, you may find yourself in a political spiderweb of department heads not wanting to give you up, thus stranding you in your current position.
