Brookdale Senior Living has announced the 2022 recipients of The Cornerstone Awards. The Cornerstone Awards were created to reflect Brookdale’s cornerstones of Passion, Courage, Partnership and Trust, the foundation from which the company’s associates deliver their mission of enriching lives. Katherine Turman, sales manager at Brookdale Fort Smith, Ark., received the “Bill Sheriff Passion Cornerstone Award.” Gabrielle Barker, medication technician at Brookdale Danville Piedmont, Va., received the “Jackie Clegg Courage Cornerstone Award.” Dawn Potts, business office coordinator at Brookdale Ithaca, N.Y., received the “Cornerstone Award for Partnership.” Debra Gordon, a nursing manager at Brookdale Meridian, Miss., received the “Jim Seward Trust Cornerstone Award.”
Brookdale Announces Third Annual Cornerstone Award Recipients
For the fourth year in a row, Brookdale is celebrating two extraordinary leaders named “Women of Distinction.” Sara Terry, senior vice president of Resident and Family Engagement and Experience, and Jamie Merrill, regional vice president of Operations, are Brookdale’s latest award recipients in this year’s McKnight’s Women of Distinction program. Terry will be inducted into the Hall of Honor, which recognizes executive-level women who have made significant contributions to their organization or industry. Merrill has been recognized in the Rising Star category, which honors women who have demonstrated exceptional commitment at the community or corporate level early in their careers.

Brookdale CEO Chosen as Transformative CEO Summit Speaker
Brookdale’s Chief Nursing Officer, Kim Elliott, RN, has been named a member of the Nashville Health Care Council’s (NHCC) Class of 2022 Fellows Program. “Brookdale is extremely proud to see Kim selected as a member of the Fellows Class of 2022,” said Lucinda “Cindy” Baier, Brookdale’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “As a Fellow of the Nashville Health Care Council, she will have the opportunity to broaden her already extensive expertise and continue to serve as an important advocate for the role senior living plays in the healthcare continuum. Nashville is the clear healthcare epicenter of our nation, and I’m confident she and they will benefit from her involvement.” Elliott will join an elite cohort of other Nashville-based senior executives in a five-month intensive program with a customized curriculum tailored for some of healthcare’s most influential leaders as they shape the industry’s future.

Rita Johnson-Mills, a member of Brookdale Senior Living’s Board of Directors, is named one of Savoy Magazine’s 2021 List of Most Influential Black Corporate Directors in the fall 2021 edition of the magazine. “We’re thrilled to see Rita recognized for the tremendous work she does on Brookdale’s Board of Directors,” said Lucinda “Cindy” Baier, President and CEO of Brookdale Senior Living. “Rita brings exceptional experience to our Board and deserves recognition for the contributions she makes to our company and to our residents and associates.” Johnson-Mills joined Brookdale’s Board of Directors in August 2018 as an independent director. She is a healthcare executive with more than 25 years of combined federal, state and private industry experience and she is the founder and CEO of consulting firm RJM Enterprises.
Brookdale Board Member Named to 2021 Most Influential Black Corporate
Brookdale Senior Living CEO Cindy Baier was among those honored recently as a member of the Nashville Medical News Class of 2021 “Women to Watch”. Baier was selected, according to the publication, because of her critical leadership in overseeing a large, highly respected, complex company that must answer to multiple stakeholders while always keeping the focus squarely on the care and well-being of seniors is truly inspirational. Co-Publisher and Managing Editor Cindy Sanders said, “Celebrating our 16th year, the ‘Women to Watch’ Class of 2021 is a testament to the innovative, intuitive leadership of talented women across Middle Tennessee's healthcare ecosystem who bring both their passion and perspective to the task of solving some of the industry’s greatest challenges. Brookdale CEO a "Woman to Watch"
The Nashville Business Journal (NBJ) has selected two Brookdale executives for recognition in the publication’s 2021 Health Care Innovation Awards. Brookdale Senior Vice President of Resident & Family Engagement Sara Terry has been named a winner in the Community Champion category and President & CEO Cindy Baier has been named a winner in the CEO of the Year category. The NBJ says that this program “highlights the men and women who push the region's signature industry forward and help to protect their communities in uncertain times.” Sara’s recognition is based upon her critical role as a founding member of Brookdale’s Emergency Command Center, which leads the company’s COVID-19 pandemic response. She serves as its Chief of Staff, managing operational logistics across internal and external stakeholders. Sara also led Brookdale’s efforts to hear the voice of the company’s customers, to understand their perspectives throughout the pandemic as a way to help prioritize needs. Among other accomplishments that Cindy is being recognized for, she led the way for the senior living industry
