We are honored to receive a $230,000 Empowering Health grant from UnitedHealthcare to introduce the Calm and Safe Classrooms counseling program. It provides solutions and support to students and their parents or guardians to address children struggling with emotions and behavior. The program will be administered by the LIFT (Local Impact for Tomorrow) Center at Fallon Park Elementary School.
We are honored to receive a $1 million gift benefitting Carilion's Cancer Care from Bill and Shireen Kirk. Their gift will help support the expansion of our cancer program that will bring together personalized care, advanced treatment options, and cutting-edge research in a single location.
Let's celebrate the 19 nursing students who graduated from our SOAR (Seeking Opportunities, Aspirations and Results) externship program and the 34 more who graduated from our summer nursing program. This year's students worked at eight different facilities across our organization and made a big difference for their patients and peers! We are proud of each and every one of you.
We are #CarilionProud of Olivia Balzano, R.N., for receiving the Daisy Award! Here's what one co-worker had to say about Olivia: "Recently, we had a patient spend an extended length of time...as Olivia was talking with the patient and she realized it was his wedding anniversary the next day, Olivia quickly realized that he would be unable to get anything for his wife, so she immediately jumped into action! That night she collected some flowers, cards and balloons. When she returned the following day, she, with the help of the patient and other staff on the unit that shift, had everything set up for 9 a.m. The patient's wife was always very prompt, and they knew she would be there right when visitation hours opened. The joy that Olivia brought was tangible...while it might have began as a morale booster for one individual, it quickly spread throughout the unit. One thing that we have realized over the past 2 years is that it is important to celebrate the wins both large and small."
