Let's hear it for Aiden! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Cancer patients at ECHN's John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center were the lucky recipients of an act of kindness by a third-grader named Aiden! Aiden put together care packages that included hats, socks, blankets, hand lotion, hard candies and beautifully drawn pictures and well wishes from Aiden and his classmates. The care packages were delivered to patients and they were so appreciative and surprised by Aiden’s generosity. Thank you Aiden for this thoughtful gesture!

GIVING BACK: David McCarthy had his tonsils removed when he was 12 years old at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Remembering that event, David wanted to give back. He generously donated crayons and coloring books for the children who were in the hospital on Christmas this year. A very big thanks for such compassion and kindness! 💕

Family shares holiday tradition with Manchester Hospital nurse
We'd like to give a big Congratulations to DAISY Award Winner Mary Beth VanDine, RN! Mary Beth is a registered nurse in the Manchester Memorial Hospital’s Family Birthing Center Unit. Mary Beth has worked on the Family Birthing Center for 19 years. She was nominated for a DAISY award by one of her patients and her patient's husband. The nomination spoke of Mary Beth’s soothing and calming ways, as well as her demonstration of confidence, excellent patient/family support, education and extreme caring. Mary Beth was recently honored in at a surprise ceremony in the Manchester Memorial Hospital Family Birthing with her family, as well as her colleagues and the nominating patient and her husband in attendance.

On Christmas Eve 1999, Farhad Zarinejad was cleaning out his gutters before a holiday celebration when he fell off of a 25-foot ladder. He was found unconscious. An ambulance rushed him to ECHN’s Manchester Memorial Hospital. It was there that he learned that his fall broke nearly every bone from his jaw to his toes. His family has always remembered the nurse who was there that night: Charlene, who has been a nurse at ECHN for 33 years. Every year around the anniversary of the accident, Farhad and his family visit Charlene at work as a sign of appreciation and gratitude. This year’s visit is extra special because it marks the 20th anniversary of Farhad’s accident. “The family’s visit is my special gift each year. It is the highlight of my nursing career.” A big thank you to this beautiful family for your ongoing kindness, 20 years strong!" says Charlene.
