Larisa Layug, Director Business, Technology and Transformation team talks about enjoying her career and team work at our enterprise: “I work with a high performing team of talented and caring individuals who have different backgrounds and expertise in technology, business operations, systems testing and program delivery. What we have in common is that we are problem solvers, outcomes oriented, and dedicated to our mission and to each other. My experience at EmblemHealth has been challenging and fun.” - Larisa Layug, Director Business, Technology and Transformation
We encourage our employees to bring their full, authentic selves to work each day. Our employee resource groups (ERGs) – created and run by employees – empower members and help foster connections and conversations across our enterprise. In a recent virtual event, representatives from each ERG discussed health care solutions that foster health equity and the unique challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Keynote speaker, WellSpark Chief Medical Officer Dr. Wayne Rawlins, addressed vaccine hesitancy and health equity among underserved communities. Thanks to all our ERG representatives and everyone who participated.
This International Women's Day, we #ChooseToChallenge our employees to bring their full, authentic, vulnerable, human selves to work – which can feel scary for many of us. Our employee resource group The Bold Collective, which is dedicated to cultivating authentic conversations and meaningful connections among women and their allies, recently hosted a virtual event with guest speaker Roxane Gay (The TUESDAY Agency). Roxane talked about how women (and all humans) can be strong but vulnerable at the same time, and challenges us to give ourselves and each other space to feel.
At our virtual Black History Month celebration, enterprise employees shared stories of Black icons — like W.E.B. Du Bois, Ida B. Wells, George Shirley, Jane Cook-Wright, and many more — who inspired them personally and had a profound impact on history. Then, we heard from guest speaker Randi B. Nelson, MD, MBA, who spoke about the link between health and financial well-being. Thank you to our employee resource group Rise for hosting this event and for your continued work to fostering engagement and inclusion for people of color.
Although we can’t celebrate Black History Month together in-person this year, our employee resource group RISE — which is committed to fostering engagement and inclusion for people of color — has planned an internal event next week to honor the resilience of Black communities. The event will feature instrumental contributions from Black figures in history, as well as a conversation with guest speaker Dr. Randi Nelson, whose works focus on the intersection between financial security and physical health and wellbeing. How are you recognizing and celebrating Black History Month?
Adrian Forbes, EmblemHealth Technology and Architecture Director, talks about his career and personal development as part our enterprise: “I have been fortunate to be a part of a deeply passionate team that is constantly seeking ways to enhance our business operations and technology. We are lucky to have a very collaborative environment where everyone is given the opportunity to voice their perspectives and insights no matter your position within the organization. During my tenure, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from and participate in many different facets of the business, which has helped me to grow as a leader.” - Adrian Forbes, Director, Technology and Architecture
Our employees are celebrating the holiday season across the EmblemHealth family of companies with some special activities! We kicked off the festivities with a virtual sing-a-long led by Greg Johnson, Chief Advisor for Family Caregiving. Then, we asked employees from EmblemHealth, AdvantageCare Physicians, and ConnectiCare to share photos of their homemade holiday desserts and family traditions.
Beola Fowler-Shearin, long-term employee shares what it’s like to work at EmblemHealth: “I’ve been working at EmblemHealth for over 21 years. I regularly attend our internal diversity and inclusion coffee office hours, where I can be my authentic self and make my voice heard. Attending these events has helped me feel more comfortable and confident in other meetings with my peers. I’m proud to work at a company that ensures team members have input on inclusion and belonging.” - Beola Fowler-Shearin, RN, Manager, Medical Review Unit
Did you know that the EmblemHealth family of companies includes pharmacy teams across each of our partner brands, AdvantageCare Physicians and ConnectiCare? For this year’s National Pharmacy Week, we wanted to recognize all our pharmacy team members and the extra support they are giving our members during these unprecedented times. From questions about medications, to prescription delivery, our staff is working hard to make sure you have everything you need to stay well.
Congratulations to the ConnectiCare employees celebrating milestone anniversaries this year! We're proud to have you and the CCI team in the EmblemHealth family of companies. We held a drive-by ceremony, hosted by ConnectiCare President Eric Galvin, to show our appreciation for employees from a cross-section of departments who work every day to meet the needs of our members and our communities.
