Did you know August 10-16 is OSHA's Safe + Sound Week 2020? We're celebrating all week - throughout North America and Australia, in the field, labs, and offices (and home offices!) - and are highlighting some of our staff who are safety leaders and stewards. What would you say to someone who is thinking of joining Kleinfelder? "I would say that you are joining an awesome company that will afford you great opportunities for personal and career growth. The projects that our employees work on are innovative, exciting, and possibly life-changing." -Marie Mitchell-Jackson, Senior Human Resources Specialist, San Diego.
From Environmental and Geotechnical Engineering, to Marketing and Communications, we have something for everyone! Welcome to some of our new interns working with us this summer in the West Division!
This week, Kleinfelder staff and subject matter experts in Florida presented remotely on panels at the Florida Chamber's 34th Annual Environmental Permitting Summer School (July 21-24, 2020). Subjects ranged from hot-button permitting, policy, and planning issues that a variety of stakeholders are facing on projects, to Florida wetland jurisdictions and regulatory programs. Adjusting to new or different work schedules during this time can be, well, an adjustment! Kleinfelder Senior Structural Engineer Christina Nishimoto, from our San Diego office, says that maintaining virtual collaboration is key. “I make sure to have daily contact with team members I am working with via Skype or Teams so we maintain the collaborative environment we were accustomed to in the office.” We couldn’t agree more!
Our staff join us from a variety of backgrounds and for various reasons. We're spotlighting some of our great employees, like Staff Ecologist Byanca Moreno, from our Atlanta office: "Prior to joining the Atlanta Kleinfelder Office, I did a Student Conservation Association GIS Internship with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Little Rock District and the Nashville District," she said. "I decided to join Kleinfelder because I really enjoyed doing environmental field work and GIS." When she's not working, she enjoys long-distance cycling and is a talented video editor, having recently contributed footage of our new Atlanta office space to our Instagram page - check it out at @wearekleinfelder!
Our Seattle office had a successful American Concrete Institute practical exam this week and made all the adjustments necessary to maintain social distance and safety. The exam was held in the Kleinfelder Redmond parking lot. Looking forward to next time!
Safety is our number one priority at Kleinfelder. While we continue operations remotely, in the field, and in our offices, abiding by social distancing standards, cleaning and sanitizing, and wearing face masks (demonstrated here by the statue of our founder, Jim Kleinfelder) remains paramount!
Today is International Women in Engineering Day, and we’re proud to highlight Rachel, who started as a project engineer at Kleinfelder seven years ago, and now helps lead the water/wastewater team from our Denver office. "Working as a water engineer is incredibly fulfilling and has allowed me to work on projects involving cutting-edge advances in water conservation and technology," she said. "I love being a part of helping to extend and improve the infrastructure for such an important and valuable resource."
We're sharing what the Kleinfelder community is all about, from the perspective of our leadership. Senior Vice President and Director of Markets Ashraf Jahangir says, "When colleagues become friends, and you watch their children growing up, you create an unparalleled chemistry, which has kept me at Kleinfelder for 26 years. Our clients experience that chemistry in everything we do."
