Geotechnical Engineers Janna Bonfiglio and Salvador Tena represented Kleinfelder at the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) San Diego Chapter’s most recent industry event – a one-day short course covering software tools from the U.S. Geological Survey for site-specific ground motion hazard analysis, and a two-day colloquium series on earthquake geotechnical engineering with a focus on lateral displacements. As the Secretary & Treasurer of the EERI San Diego Chapter Board, Janna contributed significantly to the event which provided a forum for engineers, scientists, researchers, and students to discuss the latest research, technology, and design requirements and methodologies related to earthquake engineering.
Staff from Kleinfelder’s Sacramento office served up a spaghetti dinner to nearly 80 family members at the Northern California Ronald McDonald House. The team of volunteers had a great time working together to prepare the meal and found it very rewarding to see the faces of exhausted parents brighten upon seeing homemade food and the kids’ pure excitement at seeing the dessert – a build-your-own ice cream sandwich!

Kleinfelder’s Los Angeles Area partnered with human-I-T, a nonprofit organization that provides refurbished technology to low income families and others in-need, to host an e-waste drive. Staff collected unwanted electronics, filling an entire pallet with e-waste that human-I-T will refurbish and/or recycle. In addition to helping low-income families gain access to technology, the consolidated donation of e-waste from Kleinfelder’s LA offices diverted over 555 pounds of waste from landfills. Committed to reducing our impact on the environment, Kleinfelder has partnered with human-I-T for several years and has received recognition from the organization for our donations.

Kleinfelderâs Florida Environmental Planning and Permitting teams have been busy all summer with one of their favorite activities â relocating endangered tortoises! The gopher tortoise is protected in the state of Florida and is currently a candidate for federal listing. Working closely with clients on projects that may cause land disturbances (e.g. land development/management, construction, etc.), Kleinfelder safely relocates tortoises to protected areas before any development occurs.
