Supporting our people goes beyond physical health. At Maple Leaf Farms, we invest in mental wellness because we know that a healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body. Every team member has access to our Employee Assistance Program, connecting them with professional counselors, legal and financial experts, and other confidential resources to navigate life’s challenges. In select locations, we also offer access to Marketplace Care Partners—a personal support service available 24/7 to employees and their immediate family members, at no additional cost. Whether it’s emotional support for grief and loss, marriage counseling, or financial advice, our Care Partners are there when you need someone to talk to. We’ve begun equipping our managers and supervisors on how to recognize and respond to signs of emotional distress, through QPR training, because building a safe and supportive workplace is everyone’s responsibility. At Maple Leaf Farms, your well-being matters—at work and beyond. That’s why we continuously explore and pilot new benefits, using employee feedback to guide improvements and expand access across our locations.

We offer access to preventative screenings—like heart scans and mammograms—to help support long-term lifestyle changes. For those enrolled in our health plan, dedicated Cancer Care partners offer resources, education, and emotional support—so no one has to navigate a diagnosis alone. We're continuing our May series celebrating the impact of our skilled trades team at Maple Leaf Farms. Today, we’re highlighting John Hall, a Maintenance Technician who joined the team last July — bringing with him a strong foundation in automotive and diesel mechanics. John plays a key role in keeping our operations running smoothly through daily facility checks, equipment inspections, and hands-on repairs. “People may not realize how physical this work can be. It takes knowledge, focus, and coordination with production schedules to keep everything on track,” he explains. What he enjoys most in his role, is the collaboration: “I love working alongside others to achieve a common goal. It’s rewarding to know that my work makes a difference.” Since joining Maple Leaf Farms, John has found the space to grow and apply a wide range of skills, “Maple Leaf Farms has given me the opportunity to apply skills I hadn’t used professionally before. I’m thankful they took a chance on me.” We asked John for his advice to others joining this field or Maple Leaf Farms: “I believe that here there are many opportunities for anyone who applies themselves to grow within this company. And for those looking to finish out a career — don’t give up, take a chance!” Thank you, John, for your drive, skill, and commitment to excellence. You’re a vital part of what makes Maple Leaf Farms thrive.

At Maple Leaf Farms, our skilled trades professionals are the backbone of our operations — and this May, we’re proud to spotlight Jeff Fiehweg, who’s been part of the MLF family for an incredible 35 years! Starting as a general laborer, Jeff worked his way into his current role as a Maintenance Tech/Supervisor, where he tackles everything from daily maintenance checks to troubleshooting complex issues across the facility. “There’s a lot of knowledge that goes into maintaining a well-run facility that most people don’t realize,” Jeff shares. But it’s not just the technical work he values — it’s the people. “I’ve been lucky to have good bosses and fellow maintenance techs along the way. Most of my learning has come from on-the-job experience and the help of my former coworkers. Maple Leaf has always been willing to offer the training needed to succeed in my position.” Jeff thrives on the challenge, pace, and constant learning that come with a skilled trade career — and encourages others to take full advantage of every opportunity. His advice for future tradespeople? “Take all the training offered to you — at some point, it will come in handy.” Thank you, Jeff, for your commitment, leadership, and decades of service. You’re a vital part of the Maple Leaf Farms team!
