Happy Birthday, Hampden! “This is a beautiful, inviting building for our community, but it’s the people who have made it a place of comfort and healing,” said Don McKenna, West Shore regional president. “It’s not easy to open a new hospital, build a new team and learn new processes. Penn State Health leaders appreciate everything the Hampden staff has done to bring safe, high-quality, compassionate care to our patients and families, and we wanted to celebrate this first anniversary with them.” The 110-bed acute care hospital in Hampden Township opened on Oct. 1, 2021, giving residents of Cumberland and Perry counties and surrounding areas easier access to Penn State Health’s high-quality, specialized health care.
On Monday, October 3, more than 500 employees were part of opening the new Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center. “The most important feature of Lancaster Medical Center is our caregivers,” said Joseph Frank, regional president, Penn State Health. “We’ve built a strong team of highly experienced providers who are using their decades of knowledge to deliver an extraordinary care experience.” The 341,000-square-foot, six-story medical center includes 132 private inpatient beds, an emergency department, various specialty inpatient services, including a cardiac catheterization lab, labor and delivery and complete medical and surgical capabilities. It also has an attached medical office building for physician practices and outpatient services.
