Prisma Health team members step up to provide care for the community every day and during this COVID-19 pandemic. In honor of its team members and the COVID-19 patients they have cared for, a tree was planted at Prisma Health Richland Hospital earlier this week. The tree is being planted as a symbol of the tenacity, kindness and devotion team members have shown since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and in honor of the community members we have cared for with the virus. From environmental and food service employees to administrators, nurses, physicians, volunteers, and laboratory team members, everyone has contributed in some way to ensure that Prisma Health has been able to provide excellent and compassionate care to all our patients. A plaque posted near the tree commemorates the hard work of the team. The project was envisioned by Chuck Petit, MD, one of Prisma Health’s Hospice and Palliative Medicine physicians, as a symbol to remind staff of some of what we have been through and how we can continue to move forward in hope. #PrismaHealthHeroes

Meet today's #PrismaHealthHero. Alfreda Oree, nurse manager of Prisma Health Richland Hospital’s 9 East, an Acute Care for the Elderly Unit and 11 West Medical Nursing Unit, which has been designated for COVID-19 patients, has had a full plate during this COVID-19 pandemic. She knew that balancing the needs of her unit for the elderly with restricted visitation and opening a unit for patients with a new disease would be a challenge. Prisma Health would like to thank Alfreda and every team member who works every day to live our Purpose: Inspire Health, Serve with Compassion. Be the Difference. #PrismaHealthHeroes
Meet today's #PrismaHealthHero Nurse Manager Kodee Spearman (pictured left) wants the community to know that “Prisma Health Hillcrest Hospital is providing compassionate care 24/7/365!” While it is important to practice distancing during a pandemic, she also wants you to know that, if you are experiencing what could be a serious illness or injury, you should not postpone medical attention. “Our hospital is prepared to take care of your needs and provide the resources to get you well,” she said. “The Hillcrest Emergency Department team is incredibly compassionate and experienced. We care about our neighbors and are here to treat you like family.” Kodee’s role as a leader expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic to include planning and implementing tent triage with her medical director and helping to determine when to initiate that additional care. An equally important role? “Keeping the community healthy by first keeping the staff at Hillcrest healthy!”
