On Saturday, employees from Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System raised suicide prevention awareness by participating in and sponsoring the #OutoftheDarkness Walk. Proceeds raised benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, an organization dedicated to funding research, providing educational programs, advocating public policy and supporting survivors of suicide loss.
Last month, the George Washington University Hospital became the first hospital in the world to use MedRobotics Flex® Robotic System in a colorectal surgery. "You can really tailor the tumor removal and spare as much tissue as possible," explained Arjun Joshi, MD. This approach also provides patients a much quicker recovery time.
Recently, more than 75 students from Provo Canyon School volunteered 300 hours designing and creating individualized blankets to be donated to Kenyan families in need as part of their Blankets for Kenya Project. The project benefits infants and children in Kenya, and the students, as studies show that volunteering benefits a person's mental and physical health, as well as making the individual feel socially connected.
Dustin Davis, the CEO of Coral Shores Behavioral Health, along with facility leaders and staff, welcomed evacuated patients from Fort Lauderdale Hospital, Atlantic Shores Hospital and SandyPines Residential Treatment Center, as well as staff members and their families, during Hurricane Irma. Coral Shores was also called upon to assist Martin County and provide shelter for residents and volunteers of the Florida Department of Health (DOH) and the American Red Cross. The facility hosted these individuals until a more permanent placement could be found. Thank you for going above and beyond during this time of need.

On Saturday, employees from Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital recognized Suicide Prevention Awareness Month by hosting the first 'Take Off Your Mask' Suicide Prevention Health & Wellness Fair. The fair included reiki and yoga sessions, depression screenings, craft stations, pet therapy animals, a remembrance board and more. Proceeds raised at the event were donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention of the Greater Philadelphia Area. Congratulations to all on a great inaugural event!
Last month, the George Washington University Hospital expanded a program to provide remote medical care through telemedicine to defense contractors in Iraq. This expansion gives these Americans access to immediate routine and emergency medical care without making a long trek to a hospital.

As the rescue efforts in the Houston metropolitan area continue, we'd like to recognize NWTX LIFESTAR at Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo, TX, who have deployed a crew to assist those affected by #HurricaneHarvey. The crew will actively be transporting patients brought in by ground ambulance services. NWTX Lifestar has two fully functional staffed helicopters remaining in Amarillo to service the community's needs.
