"I am excited to let everyone know that Community Mental Health Service (CMHS) of VNSNY has moved to 286 Lenox Ave! After decades of being in the midtown area we have moved to a space dedicated to the division. We care, in a variety of ways, for many folks that have chronic behavioral disorders, financial difficulties and other social determinants of health issues that present obstacles to care all over NYC. Many live in Harlem. Over the last couple of years we have had the opportunity to concentrate our efforts in parts of the Harlem community. A move to Harlem increases our access as well as hopefully offers concrete evidence of our commitment to the community. We are thrilled to be here!"- Neil Pessin, Vice President of CMHS

Dawning Greenstreet, RN Supervisor Health Home/DSRIP Winner of the 2019 Marren Leadership Award to Promote Evidence-Based Practice & Quality Improvement The Marren Leadership Award, named for Joan Marren, former VNSNY Chief Operating Officer and President of VNSNY Home Care, provides a $1,000 scholarship per year of study for a master’s degree in nursing or other nursing-related advanced degree. Dawning will use the scholarship to defray expenses as she begins the Adult Gerontological/Nurse Practitioner program at the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing. Dawning has served in several nursing roles including five years as a home care nurse in the Manhattan region. She currently works with VNSNY’s Community Mental Health Services DSRIP (Delivery Service Reform Incentive Payment) initiative. “I’ve grown a lot since I started working here,” says Dawning. “VNSNY has been very supportive of my development as a nurse, and I feel honored that I was given this award.”

Margarita Luna, Licensed Practical Nurse, Hospice Winner of the 2019 Liota Award to Promote Cultural Diversity in Nursing Leadership The Liota Award, named after long-time VNSNY nurse and Queens Regional Vice President Marilyn Liota, is awarded each year to help an exemplary VNSNY nurse realize her or his leadership potential. Since joining VNSNY last year, Margarita has provided a “continual source of positive energy” within Staten Island Hospice and has had a “strong influence on how we have become such a cohesive Hospice team,” her colleagues wrote in their nomination. Margarita will apply the $1,500 scholarship towards tuition on her path to becoming a registered nurse. I feel blessed and honored to receive the Liota Award,” Margarita says. “I love being a nurse. For me it’s a passion, not a job, and I really appreciate those who nominated me. No words can describe how grateful I am.”
