"It is so very gratifying as a nurse and an educator to watch the students grow in confidence," Ann says. "I witnessed students prioritizing building relationships with the residents, and as those relationships developed over just a few days, the students gained insights into residents' preferences, needs, and wants. "That led to trust, which is a game-changer for both the residents and the caregivers. That is what person-directed care is all about!" The WesleyLife CNA Training Program is open to all, and a 70% tuition discount is available for WesleyLife team members. What a special Veterans Day observance today at The Village, A WesleyLife Community! Resident Nancy Hosey, RN, a retired U.S. Air Force captain, was honored by the community and by American Legion Post 165 in Indianola, Iowa, for her service. Nancy was presented with a flag, and a rifle volley salute was conducted during the raising of another new flag in front of the campus. Nancy’s son, a retired Marine, and daughter-in-law were on hand to witness the ceremony. Said Nancy, “I’m very proud of my time in the military. I know I did my part, and I will always have the memories.” This Veterans Day and always, we offer our heartfelt thanks to Nancy and to all who have served. Thank you also to We Are Iowa Local 5 News for capturing this special event! #veteransday #healthandwellbeing #veterans #military

Happy 25 years with WesleyLife, Ann Head! In these days of higher-than-average turnover in the clinical sector, WesleyLife is fortunate that many individuals have enjoyed long and meaningful careers with us, and Ann Head -- RN, BSN, and Clinical Staff Educator -- is in that category. Ann's leader, Krista Van Hooser-Perin, has this to say: "I don’t think the English language has the right combination of words to accurately express just how much Ann does for WesleyLife. Her unwavering drive and commitment to building, launching, and sustaining training programs is not only transforming the way we do things around here, but also pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Ann doesn’t just talk about what we could do; she has a remarkable talent for turning ideas into realities that benefit us all. "What truly sets Ann apart is her boundless passion for developing and retaining our front-line clinical team. Her unwavering guidance and steadfast support have not only shaped countless careers but have also cultivated a workplace culture that sets us apart as a truly exceptional place to work. "Here’s to 25 years of incredible dedication with many more to come! We’re not just lucky to have her on our team; we're truly blessed, and her impact is immeasurable. "Ann, cheers to all you’ve accomplished in the past and the limitless potential you hold for the future!" Ann, we are so glad you chose us all those years ago, and that you keep choosing us. You are the best! #leadership #
Living the WesleyLife Way: Debbie Roberts
WesleyLife introduces enhanced mental-health focus As a health and well-being organization, WesleyLife is committed to the holistic wellness of its team members. Just in time for World Mental Health Day on October 10, Krista Van Hooser-Perin and her team have taken that commitment a step further. Krista, WesleyLife's Director of Organizational Learning, has been certified by the National Council for Mental Well-Being as an Adult Mental Health First-Aid Virtual Instructor. Two members of her team soon will begin certification process as well. "It's helpful to think of the program as CPR for mental health," Krista, who has been with WesleyLife for seven years, says. "It trains people to recognize and pay attention to symptoms of mental-health challenges, how to assess what's happening, and how to connect people with mental-health professionals." Krista said she became interested in the course after hearing about it at a conference. She and her team members discussed it and decided to become certified, then teach the eight-hour course to WesleyLife leaders and clinical team members. Eventually, the course will be opened up to WesleyLife residents, clients, and partners. Certification lasts for two years. "Like all organizations, we've seen increases in mental-health challenges since the pandemic; that was a time of collective trauma, with many people living in a constant state of fear," Krista says. "We didn't always have or make the time to deal with our mental health, an
