Our marketing team has been hard at work creating campaigns that connect us with the communities we serve in a meaningful way. With Ramadan representing a major seasonal remittance peak in Muslim-majority receive markets, we're excited to optimise this opportunity and make it easier for our customers to send fast and easy money transfers. 🚀 To celebrate the spirit of giving and sharing, we've partnered with two charities - the Edhi Foundation in Pakistan and Jood in Morocco. For every money transfer sent to Pakistan and Morocco during Ramadan, we're offering a free iftar meal to those in need, with a goal of distributing 30,000 meals in total. 🥙 Once again, Ramadan Mubarak to everyone celebrating. Update on the Zepz forest 🌳 We previously shared that we were planting trees in Ghana and the Philippines in support of Click A Tree and the impactful initiatives they are working on. We can confirm that 800 trees were planted each in Ghana and the Philippines. So far, we have been able to contribute to the securing of much needed jobs for the local communities and helped to finance the entrepreneurship school for unemployed young people. As a remote-first business, we've found that having in-person meet-ups which we call "Zepz Connects", has been really effective in fostering connections and improving collaboration between teams! Our senior leadership team took a week-long trip to Casablanca. The aim was to gain a deeper understanding of one of our growing markets, Morocco, share new ideas and perspectives, as well as develop stronger bonds. Some people were able to meet face-to-face for the very first time! It was a successful week, take a sneak peek below at some of what the team got up to. We look forward to hosting more Zepz Connects across the world this year! 🌴

Celebrating International Women's day! 🎉 Over the last few days, we hosted four virtual sessions with speakers and panellists of our very own. 1️⃣ We hosted a bias training, highlighting the biases that women can face, especially within a remote-first environment with Bobby Kimani (He/Him/His) Nifemi Olaopa and Glenda Najem. 2️⃣ We also held a Women in Tech panel, where we heard more about the journeys of Ritu Soni, Kim Taylor, Doris Njihia and Eun-Hye Kim. We explored the challenges they have faced and their thoughts on how we can push to do better for women in tech. 3️⃣ We hosted a fireside chat on leadership with two of our leaders @Maggie Beddow and Lara Oyesanya FRSA, who gave more insights into the learnings from their career journeys, inspiring current and future leaders across the business. 4️⃣ Lastly, we had a workshop on finding your voice, particularly relevant within male-dominated, tech environments with Sasha Dale and Shana Smeets. On top of this, we flooded our #gratitude-at-zepz Slack channel with lots of love and appreciation for the outstanding women we work.

Meet Sthembiso 👋. Sthembiso Radebe is an Associate Engineer on our South Africa based Associate Engineering Programme. The programme has been designed to give an opportunity to aspiring engineers, as they rotate between functions and work closely with experienced engineers on the job. By the end of the 12 month period, participants will be offered an opportunity to move into one of our engineering teams. We look forward to sharing more about his experience as he moves through the programme and we are thrilled to have you on board Sthembiso Radebe 🚀.

Meet Bobby Kimani (He/Him/His) 🇰🇪 1️⃣ What is your background? I am what you call a cocktail of everything but with a spice to one. I started off as a developer in Java and shifted through careers in business development, marketing and capacity building. I got a chance to be part of the People team as an EA to the VP of People in Tech and the rest connected like building blocks. 2️⃣ What do you do at Zepz? Currently handling Talent Operations and Analytics. I work with brilliant minds to ensure a strong build of the process that works on collaboration, efficiency and robust data for the business. 3️⃣ Being that Zepz is remote-first, what are your top tips for remote working? As a part of planning your day, first, block out times for you to do something you love and also give yourself breaks. If it can be an email or slack message, DON'T BOOK a meeting. 4️⃣ Which one of our commitments do you resonate most with? We act like owners and We embrace embarrassing honesty. Our CEO Mark Lenhard, was recently interviewed by TechFinancials about our plans for expansion and talent acquisition across Africa 🚀. Africa is a rapidly growing market with incredible potential. We're keen to make the most of this potential, drive growth across the continent and expand our reach to better serve our users. By acquiring new companies and talent, we believe we can achieve this goal whilst also creating new job opportunities. Mark says in the interview: “We will strive to provide products and services that will serve the world from SA. The only way we can really serve our customers well is to employ some of them. We have found phenomenal talent in South Africa.
