      Customer Assistant Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Boots (Lincoln, England) in Oct 2017

      Interview

I applied online after seeing the vacancy on Indeed. The initial application was very fast and easy (basic details), and then later that day I had an email to complete an online test. This was also relatively easy and revolved around competency questions (what would you do if....). After passing this stage, I had an email that asked me to book an interview date and time slot. (For which I received a confirmation email and interview reminder email.) On the day of the interview I arrived at Boots and had to ask at the counter where I should go as I wasn't advised on the email. I was taken to the office upstairs, where I met with a line manager who ran the interview. I was advised that the interview would be an hour online and would include an interview, and a test type activity on the shop floor. The interview half of the interview actually only lasted about 5 - 10 minutes, where I was asked very basic questions such as 'Tell me about yourself?' 'Why are you interested in Boots?' 'What are your strengths?' We then went to the shop floor, where I was asked to pick out a product I liked, and suggest how I would sell it to somebody. (Research before hand helped this...knowing information about the product such as that it is award winning...or just having a strong opinion on it and knowing what positive effects it has is useful). I was then asked a few other questions on the shop floor, such as what advise I would give an older lady coming in wanting a gift for a friend of a similar age. I was also asked how I would deal with a confused looking teenager on the hair care isle. Here I answered that I would ask the customer if I could help them (as you have to be mindful of approachable and non approachable customers e.g someone with headphones in, someone in a rush), and then proceed to ask questions so that I could understand the customers requirements. I also said I'd give advise that seemed personal so the customer felt comfortable with me and that they could trust my judgement. I was then asked to actually approach 3 different customers and ask if they needed any help (which I found odd as I couldn't actually help with any of the issues and had to ask the interviewer to assist the customers....but overall I just made sure I was friendly and smiley here.) Finally, I was asked how I would improve a shelf. I said with a small amount of time I would pull all the items forward and ensure they are all front facing. With a longer amount of time I would fill the shelves from the stock room. After walking back to the office, I had to provide my passport to be photocopied, and that was the end of the interview. It actually took around 20/30 minutes rather than the hour I was told on the email, but I understand the interviewer was probably busy that day and that the first half of the interview would probably be slightly longer usually.

      Interview

Easy enough interview, just asked the typical interview questions. Thought i fit the role well but did not receive an offer or any reason for not being selected. Interview took place in a cleaning closet, which i did find strange as it was opposite the staff break room.
