Interview
Skipped HR and went right to two hiring managers (panel interview), which was a huge mistake on their part because I didn't get any real background on FM Global or the position itself. And the hiring managers were very reluctant to talk about the company. They were more interested in asking me questions. As it turned out, I wasn't interviewing for a specific position but it was more like a "general interview". That would have been helpful to know. How are candidates supposed to have a fair shake if they're not even sure what/why they're interviewing? The interview was pretty terrible. The two managers just read from some pre-prepared questions. There was very little conversation and neither of the two managers asked any follow-up or probing questions. There were some questions that didn't really apply to the type of work I had done and it was greeted with silence. No attempt to rephrase the question or ask any other similar questions. It was basically a Q&A. When I did get an opportunity to ask questions to them they're answers were very dismissive and reluctant, and my time was cut pretty abruptly when they decided that it was time to move on. It was a very one-way interview and I think the two of them forgot that I'm interviewing them as much as they're interviewing me. The whole experience was basically pretty obnoxious and a waste of time. And of course they asked the typical "Why FM Global?". That's a great question but you should be telling me why FM Global. Asking a candidate this question is just silly and shows that they only pulled a bunch of generic questions off the internet.
