I applied to the Senior Marketing Coordinator position through the company's website and a recruiter reached out about one week later for a phone interview. There was a lot of enthusiasm in the beginning. The second interview occurred the following week on video with two direct supervisors. It seemed like a good fit on both sides. I was asked about salary during the initial phone screen and given the option to delay the conversation which I suggested, but after the second interview, the recruiter called to press me on compensation that same day. After that, I had two more interviews with two more marketing people. We are now at a total of four interviews and connections with five people. After the fourth interview, I sent a thank you email and I heard nothing. The last interviewee had also promised to email some additional info that never arrived. After a full week, I followed up by email. The recruiter was out of the office on PTO. I waited another week with no updates and followed up again. I received the same out-of-office message which was now out of date. Wanting some sort of answer, I followed up with the last person that I interacted with. They said they were still evaluating candidates and I should hear back in about a week. So I held my breath for another week. I got ghosted after four interviews and three direct follow-ups. I understand no closure after one or two interviews. I can accept that I was not the right person for the job, but I can’t accept the lack of consideration after so many rounds, especially when they preach a people-first philosophy. I walked away from this experience feeling less than human and with a negative impression of the company. It is not hard to copy/paste a generic email stating that they are proceeding with other candidates. Have a freaking intern do it. Another kicker is that I am still getting targeted the job ad on LinkedIn – three months later.
