Pros

There really are no pros to this job or this company.

Cons

Management are generally poorly educated and have very little industry knowledge. Founder keeps all the money and power to himself and treats anyone other than a family member like dirt. Worst job I have had in my career.

Pros

Free food, events, bring your child/mom to work day, good place to learn a lot

Cons

18F started to fall apart in the past 6-12 months. There's a lot of disorganization, a lack of communication between teams, rushed projects, and a feeling that everything is an emergency. C-Suite/Sr VPs didn't seem aligned, and the company's performance hit a major low. Major lack of work-life balance. Being in office 4-5 days a week (Fridays are mandatory), 9-6, in office for holidays + weekends + revoked summer fridays caused me to rethink my employment at 1800Flowers. Bit of a boys club and a lot of nepotism. Not too many women in important meetings/conversations unless she was related/connected. No perks - no continued education, no appreciation events, benefits aren't great, and I was underpaid. Recently did layoffs, which isn't ideal for morale + retention. A lot of good people are in the process of leaving or have already left.

Pros

Coworkers are friendly, but I can't think of anything else.

Cons

It's all about work and making money for the Company and is certainly not about employees anymore. There is a 401K but don't be fooled it's mostly there so the company can say they have one to contribute to. They staff departments at levels that make it difficult or near impossible to meet minimum job requirements. They try to pay people as little as possible and are then surprised when they can't get good candidates to work there. Company spends almost nothing on Education and Training and there is no Career Development anywhere. Sr Mgmt is a Boys Club with a few women/diversity picks thrown in for looks. Systems are old and outdated and a lot of manual work has to be done using Excel spreadsheets. They're years behind the curve in processes and many at Corp should be retired by now. So many people have left and headcount is not being replaced. It felt like the Company was falling apart after Covid. No visible leadership from the very top of the Company. Some Managers bully and use intimidation with employees - so old school.
