If you are considering a sales job in this organization (whether working with net new clients or existing ones) I think you'll find this helpful. The first thing to note is that the management team in sales is rather junior. You will find managers who never sold a thing prior to working in sales at 1Password. However the most significant downside in sales at 1Password is that the pay is terrible. TE-RRI-BLE. Base salaries are upwards of 30% lower than in other software companies, including start-ups with less money. That wouldn't be too bad if they had a good comp plan; but they don't. Their comp plan is convoluted and ill-conceived. It's not straight commission like the vast majority of sales organizations; you only get paid once you hit a certain percentage of target and the amounts you get paid are arbitrarily determined. The targets are also extremely high. A quarterly target at 1Password is the equivalent of almost a yearly target at other software companies of similar size. As a result, a significant number of sales people have left within the 1st year of being there and some others don't last 2 years. The last thing to note is that often times promotions are given without an interview process. Team leads and sometimes managers are picked by their bosses based on... who knows. Certainly not experience in software sales.

My one con is that I wish the PTO policy were a bit more on-par with other companies in the tech space. Otherwise, whatever is in this kool-aid I am ALL IN.
