Pros

One of the biggest pieces of advice that I will offer my son as he grows older is to find a company like 84 Lumber at an early age and grow with it. You don't need fancy degrees to get started (which I obtained and wish I had never racked up that expense). This is a company where you can move up and do it quickly, provided you show that you want it. You get what you put into it in return. The majority of these poor reviews come from people who wanted something for nothing. This company will invest in you if you show your drive and be a team player. There are an abundance of pros working for 84 Lumber. Fast paced, ability to earn a good wage for most positions, co-workers for the most part are a strong work family, and there's a great potential to see parts of the country that you wouldn't see with other jobs as you relocate and move up the ladder.

Cons

I do believe we under pay the yard personnel in some areas of the country. To get good people to start and stay with the company a higher wage would be nice for those individuals pending their experience. It's slightly tougher for management minded employees to manuever the ladder upwards when they have families, but it is doable. Overall there's really not many cons to the company.

Pros

Good employees and policies in place. Wonderful selection of lumber, great prices, caters to builders, yet has a storefront for Joe Homeowner. Good hours.

Cons

Went through 7 managers in 3 years. The way the management system is structured is terrible. They closed 21 stores without prior notice to ANYONE. The employees showed up to work to find chains on the gates. The owner of the company has very shoddy work ethics.
