Pros

AJ Tutoring is a good company. I lucked out with a good manager during my time, but also didn't have a good manager at one point. You need to be able to be really autonomous, which was a good lesson for me. I did like working with kids and learned a lot of great skills that could be applied in almost any job. It's a good first job in a lot of ways.

Cons

There were definitely times when I could have benefitted from more training, especially in academic tutoring. I had to come up with lesson plans all on my own, something they discourage because they don't want to pay you for it. But you need something to do in sessions where the kid has no homework so... I also just don't have the training of a teacher. So that was hard. There's also little opportunity for growth. Also didn't love the hours, because I had no evenings or weekends. But what are you gonna do

Pros

*Lovely staff. Very kind, understanding, and compassionate. *Very organized system for training, employee engagement, and community *You get to work with easy-going and intelligent kids *Management takes employee feedback seriously and seems to care about its staff.

Cons

*Sometimes there are not enough hours - however, the company has received feedback from many employees and started to change the minimum number of hours each tutor gets!

Pros

Great coworkers, fun end of year staff parties, great kids, flexible schedules, decent benefits, good training and professional development opportunities

Cons

salary was variable, company takes a large cut (although a good portion goes to rent), somewhat conservative company values made work environment a little rigid for certain marginalized identities, company engaged in union busting
