Pros
I worked at AJ for three years between college and grad school. Even from my onboarding meeting it was so easy to see that everyone there loves the atmosphere and is truly part of the team. The training and support I had before meeting with my first student and throughout my time there made me feel so prepared to teach, even with no prior experience. The work is super rewarding, especially since most of your time is spent with kids. Compared to an office job I might have had after college, it was wonderful to be around this positive energy. I loved that I had total control of my own schedule. I made amazing friends with my coworkers and still see them when I go home! I'm currently in grad school in the Midwest, but would go back in a heartbeat, and probably will when I'm in my later semesters.
Cons
The hours follow when kids are out of school; for me it was a bit of a learning curve to schedule in a smart way, but I figured it out and set boundaries and it was fine. The most challenging part for me was communicating with (sometimes) difficult parents, but working with kids you'll get that anywhere. I found that these interactions really helped me grow though!
