It's just a job

Pros

Free & unlimited food every shift until 8pm. Relatively low pressure if you work the night shift (no managers to micromanage you). Autonomy from the hotel you work at, meaning you are a completely separate company from the hotel, so you only have to worry about the AV stuff. Every now and then you'll work a fun shift. Generally, coworkers are chill and laid back. Decent pay for the amount of skill/prowess this job requires. Unprompted pay raises every few years.

Cons

Repetitive duties. Setting up equipment, tearing it down, rinse and repeat. Most shifts are boring. You will have to work 2pm-10pm on standby just in case somebody at the hotel needs an extension cord. 90% of your time will be spent handling equipment that is not exciting or fun at all, i.e. tape, power strips, and flipcharts.

Pros

AVMS puts on top-notch shows and works with great gear. They have a full schedule for people who are wanting to earn as much as possible and the teams are small. The skills developed here are fundamental to any position in AV and even many in IT too.

Cons

Schedules could seem demanding for those who value flexibility, and the learning curve is dramatic. Many of the team members have long had interest in the industry and trends seem to come more naturally to them; this is a con for those who might be looking for a change of gears.

Cons

-Climbing corporate ladder is based on availability and somewhat competitive -Will have to travel to other properties if your current one is slow that week but you will get mileage reimbursement -30 minute unpaid lunch time
