Pros

I made a lot of strong connections with some of my co-workers. Some times because of the commonality in the way we were treated as BTs. We had a lot to bond over. Another Pro would be the experience in helping all the wonderful individuals that attend the school.

Cons

As a Behavioral Technician, please be cognizant of the fact that breaks (Spring, Winter, Summer) are not paid for. Something that wasn't illustrated to me during my onboarding with the company. You may want to clarify what the exact policy is for cashing out or taking PTO and how it accrues. At the time of my employment, Washington State Law does not force a company to pay out their employee the remainder of their PTO, unless stated in the company policy. When I left, PTO could be cashed out BY ONLY the educational staff, admin, and BCBAs. Not BTs. When I was employed there, I applied for unemployment during one summer. While filing for unemployment, the state office said there was no record of my employment with APL. I was told by the company that this was due to a glitch in the way they processed payroll and that it was part of a system they were working to fix. Please be aware of this while considering employment here. There was a culture of administration bias and I had witnessed the company go through four different HR personnel before settling on one of the newest hires. This new hire to the HR department took to social media and posted on more than one occasion about work and company situations that should have been private. This person may still work with the company.

Pros

The children are wonderful. Many of the staff are wonderful as well. There are many employees there to cover the children’s needs. You can learn so much as a behavioral technician here if you have the right BCBA to help you.

Cons

I think there are some staff who need to keep their bad attitudes at home. You’re in a work place, and behaving in a certain manner is not appropriate or professional in front of kids who need to have positive role models.

Pros

A lot of negative people left this organization. My co-workers feel supportive and I have been provided with care when it came to a difficult situation I was facing early this year and support to help me find resources. It is an inclusive environment and I really feel like everyone wants me to suceed.

Cons

Not getting a full 40 hours for full-time work.
