Pros
The hours are more family friendly than a big box store. There is a small town feel to these stores, where you have a chance to get to know the regular customers.
Cons
The biggest downside is working 3 weekends a month and the pay is lower than the big box stores. There is also an expectation from customers that every employee has an exhaustive knowledge of every department. While most of us have a general knowledge of every department, explaining how to re-wire or re-plumb a house is beyond many of us lowly sales people (yes, people get really mad and treat you like you are an idiot, it's frustrating).
