Pros

-Good work-life balance -Possible half day Fridays through "flexing" -Overall good atmosphere -Good leadership from above -Overall friendly environment -401k contribution equaling 10.5% (8% + 2.5% end of year discretionary bonus, which has paid out for the past 10+ years) -Hard to get fired from, "Hello tenure"

Cons

Don't get me wrong, Acuity is a good company, but I am tired of the hype. Most everyone has "drank the Kool-Aid" and will blindly talk about all the positives, without taking into account the negatives of the company. If you do bring up the negatives, prepare to be ostracized. -All of the “free” gifts/food/events are paid for with a lower-than-average industry compensation; personally I prefer the cash. -Vacation/sick days just mean postponing/piling on work on until you return. -Very limited career advancement since the company structure is flat. -Pay stalls once you have been there for 6+ years. -Everyone gets largely the same raise based on how long you have been in your role, so there is no incentive to work harder. -Your personality has to adhere to Acuity's mold (always upbeat, extroverted, and positive). -Although you can work remotely, you are only able to live in certain states. -They treat office employees much better than remote workers. -If you are in underwriting you are required to come in the office twice a week for your first two years, even if nobody on your team comes in. -You are often “voluntold” what to do, which gives the illusion of choice. -If you are more productive, then expect to pick up the slack of others (manager dependent). -The job is highly dependent on your manager, some get lucky, others not so much. -Clubs are lacking, and rock wall has very limited hours. -You are only allowed one guest for the gym and rec center. -Acuity has "gone woke" with diversity and inclusion -The one-time mid-year raise that occurred in 2022 was designed to “fight inflation”, however in reality it just meant that the newer employees, that already start below the industry average, get a lesser increase yoy as compared to previous years. Keep in mind this includes the end of year raise.

Pros

Good benefits (Health, Dental, Vision, 401k, Paid holidays). Good pay. Ability to used flex-time for appointments etc. Since COVID, the company has been very open to remote workers and hybrid workers. Regular town hall meetings keep employees up-to-date on all areas of the company. Lunch with an officer offers opportunities to connect with company officers in a small group setting. Lunch and learns offer opportunities to learn about a variety of topics. On site fitness center and gym. On site cafeteria. Lovely grounds. Secure, safe campus. Annual Christmas party and summer picnic. The company makes a positive impact in the community, supporting many local organizations and causes.

Cons

*Cons are mostly department specific. It seems like each department does their own thing, so these cons may not apply to other areas in the company.* -Issues are never addressed. Issues will be brought up and nothing will ever come of it. For example, months ago at a unit meeting it was brought to light that a lot of people would like to see changes in the vacation policy, particularly regarding time off around holidays and Fridays in summer. Management acknowledged the issue at the meeting then did nothing. There was no further discussion with the unit, no survey sent out, no opportunity to offer ideas for improvement, etc. -There are too many schedules to keep track of. There's a rotating phone queue week schedule, a rotating late coverage schedule, and a recently added rotating in-office paperwork schedule. -Employees are on a fast-track training program. They are no longer allowed to learn at their own speed. Some are expected to do processes that are not and will not ever be in their skillset. Everyone is expected to be a jack of all trades, which is impossible. It's a high pressure job with a strong focus on accuracy and productivity numbers and very little else. -When someone is struggling or burning out, little is done to try and find them a different place within the company. People are allowed to flounder and struggle until they quit or get fired. They'd rather hire new people than invest in the people they have. -Promotions and lateral moves seem directly related to who you know and nothing else. -The department failed to define expectations for hybrid employees. As a result it seems most hybrid employees are living a fully remote life (never work in office) while keeping hybrid benefits (still have a cubicle at headquarters, get all the in office employee gifts etc). Because of this there isn't enough people in the office to handle paperwork. Instead of setting expectations for hybrid workers, they decided to make everyone (including fully remote people) come in on a rotating basis to do paperwork. They claim this is the "fair way" but it's really punishing full time remote people while continuing to let hybrid people do whatever they want. -Some tasks don't make sense. Audit processing and answering switchboard for example. The Audit department should really have its own specialized processing department. We need a dedicated switchboard department again. -There is no way for employees to give feedback on their managers. I have no idea what a manager's annual reviews are based on, but they never consult members of a manager's team.

Pros

So many pros. -Love the work from home option and most managers are flexible. They really do care about you as a person. -They are an extremely generous company. Lots of gifts and are intentional about giving. -Not a sales focused organization -You are able to flex time for Friday afternoons off, or every other Friday off. Huge perk. -Great parties and $ spent on employee engagement. -Unlimited sick time -Great 401k contributions

Cons

Unfortunately there are many. But do not get me wrong, the pros outweigh the cons. -To put it simply, the vacation time sucks. Flexing does make up for some of this but it's lacking. When you bring it up, they say "we just updated the vacation time a few years ago." I know, and it still sucks. -A lot of $ spent on family type activities (summer picnic). Could be a pro for some, but a con for many of the millennials without children. -Do not get many holidays off. Used to get the 4th of July + the day before, and they silently took that away. Would be nice to get Juneteenth as well since they have been trying to focus on diversity and awareness. -Lack of focus on education - if you want to get your CPCU you have to pay for it up front. For the trip, they recently took away your free guest so you have to go alone. Basically discourages education and it's disappointing when benefits are taken away. -Salaries are a bit lower than industry.
