This company has no idea of how to produce a community newspaper. Managers come in and get rid of all the things that make each newspaper in a small towns or city a unique, local voice, such as longtime local columnists. The goal seems to be to make each company-owned newspaper a bland, generic clone. At my smalltown newspaper, longtime local contributors got discouraged and stopped submitting columns, letters to the editor and news releases after their unique voices and writing styles were edited out and replaced by the editor's bland, boring, short and superficial writing style. The heart and soul of the newspaper is gone. The majority of people I talk to say they no longer subscribe or advertise. A higher level manager said he was listening to community and staff complaints about this editor, but he ignored them.
