Pros

I have worked at Aegis for over 3 years and I have been fortunate to find a place where I can be myself and do what I love most in the world, brighten and enrich the lives of our residents . Each day that I come to work I am always greeted by so many smiles. I do not have any family near by, so the residents and Aegis are a second home to me. I spend almost every holiday at Aegis, and there is no where else I would rather be than surrounded by my Best Friends.

Cons

Working at Aegis gives you the opportunity to love and care for so many residents. However, when a resident passes, it feels like you have lost a family member or your closet friend. But I remind myself that I was able to offer love and friendship to these residents through the last years of their life and that gives me peace.

Pros

Aegis has a better than average activities staff. The activity directors I worked with showed a great amount of passion and patience in working with our memory care patients. On the memory care floor they really do try to keep the residents stimulated. Their hiring/interview process is actually quite thorough and works pretty well. You feel like they're selective enough that you must be special to make it on their team. Which is true in some part. I really enjoyed working with my fellow CNA's and felt like they were well qualified and good at what they do.

Cons

Never have I worked at a company and felt so taken advantage of as an employee. As a Care Manager (this is the title they give CNA's to feel better about being underpaid with little to no benefits package), we are the backbone of the care facility. I started work in the middle of 2014 because they were short-staffed. I had to work every holiday that season and spent my first holiday alone in Seattle, hundreds of miles away from my family. My manager did not respond well to the very few instances I requested time off, and it was very difficult to communicate my frustrations to any other supervisors. I can't blame my manager too much though, who was noticeably overworked as well. The vacation accrual for CNA's is also horrendous. At the six month mark I think I only had .7 days accrued for paid time off. This is highly unusual. And it's not that they're unaware of how difficult it is to live comfortably off the wage they're willing to give you. During the winter holidays they take donations (clothing and such) from employees and put together a giveaway. So instead of paying you enough or giving you a holiday bonus to buy your kid what's on their wish-list, you bring them to this event and hope they find somebody's secondhand item. Think lots of coats. The Aegis organization claims to appreciate its employees more than other companies yet refuses to give a holiday bonus. Instead they go door-to-door asking our residents and their families (who are paying upwards of 8,000/month) to donate to our holiday bonus fund. That was morally questionable to me. I shouldn't receive a holiday bonus because of some family's generosity. I should receive it because I worked hard as an integral part of their staff and deserve a cut of the pie just like everyone else. If you plan on using this place as your stepping stone to a better job; think again. Aegis has a strict "no reference" policy. AKA, no manager is allowed to write you a reference letter for future jobs. You can tell this company really wants to help further your success right? This company is the perfect example of why unions exist. Luckily, Seattle is full of healthcare facilities that are organized! So go work there and avoid this place at all costs. When I left for another CNA job, I immediately got a 50% wage increase along with stellar healthcare and benefits.

This is Dwayne Clark Aegis CEO, I am so sorry you were disappointed in employment with us. It sounds like it was not a good experience. I think the biggest issue here is it seems that you got a very poor orientation about benefits and other things we do for employees. We do have a medical program for staff that the company pays the majority of and its affordable for employees. The event you referred to as event where used clothes are given out, partially true , but far from the whole truth, winterfest as it referred to is a wildly successful events where new clothes, new shoes, children's toys and even food is given out, nearly 80 staff work tireless to put this event on and it is a magical event not only for staff but for families, kids come, it is an incredible heartwarming day that our culture has become very proud of, additionally employee receive meals for $1 , discount on haircuts, educational reimbursements and profit sharing bonus and instant bonus. Most of our long term rewards are reserved for employees who are with us long term or over a year. We have implemented a new program called Employee Life Improvement Program or ELIP that has a myriad of career pathways and wage increase opportunities. I feel bad that you feel you were treated poorly, I would welcome the opportunity to meet you in person and speak more if you be so kind to accommodate me. I wish you the best of luck in you new job. Absolutely Pathetic.

Pros

Main building employees bring their dogs in.

Cons

Management constantly disregards the needs of their employees/residents and will practically laugh in your face when you mention anything to them. They're more concerned with maintaining the "We're great!" image of the company as opposed to what's REALLY important when it comes to this line of work; quality care for the residents. I would put a negative star rating on my review of working here, but unfortunately Glassdoor doesn't offer that as an option.

While we do believe Aegis Living is a great company we can only be that if we continue to provide the best care for our residents, open communication for staff and a career path in place for our employees.
