Pros

Founders are very nice people and outside of professional space it is a pleasure to interact with them. Office has a good atmosphere, people are very friendly, it is easy to make friends in AfterShip, which is an important factor for people who come from abroad to join the company.

Cons

Lack of mentoring. This company does not have an experienced senior, an expert who could be a mentor and share his skills. In AfterShip technical objectives are at the bottom of the priority list. Top priority is new product’s MVP or the ‘just-make-it-work’ objectives. Software engineers that want to explore more intuitive approaches that require a bit more time, are often shut down. Last thing, blame culture - every quarter review founders admitted the blame culture problem, which stem from them. As long as I was working in AfterShip it was noticeable and unresolved.

Thank you for your feedback. We have adopted scrum methodologies which means we work as a team and are able to plan ahead, everyone contributes towards sprint planning, meeting sprint goals and delivering every 2 weeks - priorities, timeline and deliverables are determined by the team members themselves so that expectations are managed as best as possible from the beginning. This also encourages closer collaboration between team members, for example, engineers working very closely with designers as well as product owners towards common goals. We have also grown our leadership team to cater the needs of our ~50 staff members across different locations. For example, the leadership team now includes Product Owners, Head of Engineering, Head of People (HR) and Scrum Master (to name a few) to promote transparency and closer collaboration. We are promoting learning and development as well as knowledge sharing initiatives to encourage coaching and organic growth from within AfterShip.

Thank you for your feedback.

We have grown a lot since 2015!

The majority of the growing population here comprise of field, partner and software engineers (we are a SaaS B2B2C company after all!).

We have also welcomed onboard more people in admin, design, finance, HR and product management as well.
The reason why we promote business-partner thinking and (quote) “founder attitudes” for everyone here is to continue to aim for an even more open and collaborative culture.

We hope this helps to encourage people to create, build and take ownership - to collectively and actively contribute to the growth of the business and enjoy the fruition of our successes together.
