Could be better

Pros

Currently having difficulty thinking of any I want to brag about. There are some, but I don't want to give a false impression....... Once you been employed awhile, the vacation accrued is good

Cons

Pay scale compared to other companies could be better. If I were willing to move, I know I can a much better paying job. But, since I'm not, I'm stuck with what they will give me. I've been employed X yrs, and a new employee of only a few months is being payed almost the same as me. Random schedule; if you want to call it a schedule at all. Can't really make plans outside of work because of last second instances, which leads to staying late for work or extra work the next day, leaving me to sometimes scramble and find someone else to get my kids from daycare. The only way to have a true day off without the chance of being bothered is to use vacation days.

Great job

Pros

Flexible schedule with opportunities for a lot of overtime if desired, paid education, high performance expectations for RNs and Medics, great insurance and 401K, great pay, large scope of practice.

Cons

Base closings happening unexpectedly have me nervous, lot of pressure to do crew based marketing, high management turnover, multi level middle management, medics make significantly less than nurses which has lead to resentment in the ranks and difficulty recruiting medics. HR issues are difficult to navigate due to zero face-time with HR representatives.

Pros

Good pay for entry level job. Co-workers, for the most part, are fun to work with.

Cons

No work-life balance, minimal leave, on call, management plays favorites, not a lot of room for advancement. Local management will get people into “trouble” for minor things so that you will be on your final warning and have to do everything they say or you get fired. Very manipulative and petty. They call this position a Communication Specialist, rather than a dispatcher, so the staff can’t unionize. Dispatchers have a Union and Communication Specialists do not. This is how they can require overtime, garbage shifts, on call, and basically abuse their employees as their employees have no protection. The reason for the high turnover for employees and lower level management is everything listed above. They run employees into the ground until they burn out and either quit or they fire them as they know they have gotten everything out of them they can. There is a policy for leave there that also discriminated against people who don’t have children. In a year you get enough sick leave to cover just over 1 shift. That’s calling out once in a whole year if you are sick. BUT if you have a kid you can use your vacation hours to take care of them and everyone receives much more vacation time. People with kids abuse that privilege and those without children are required to cover for them. Poor system in place.
