Pros

Clear career progression for engineers: I personally grew from Senior Software Engineer to Staff and then Principal Engineer, which shows that Aircall does recognize impact, ownership, and technical leadership when it’s consistently demonstrated. Challenging technical environment: The scale, distributed systems, and real-time constraints make this a great place for engineers who want to sharpen their skills and work on non-trivial problems. Ownership and autonomy: At senior levels, you’re trusted to drive architecture, influence technical direction, and mentor others rather than just “deliver tickets.” Strong engineering peers: Many talented and committed engineers across teams, making collaboration and technical discussions valuable and intellectually stimulating. Product with real customer impact: You clearly see how your work affects customers and business outcomes, which is motivating as an engineer.

Cons

Sustained pace at senior levels: As you grow into Staff and Principal roles, the scope naturally broadens and can require sustained focus and energy over long periods. Balancing speed and craftsmanship: In a fast-scaling company, there are moments where delivery speed takes priority, which can sometimes limit how much technical refinement you’d ideally want. Complexity of alignment at scale: With multiple teams and stakeholders, aligning on technical direction can take time and requires strong communication and influence skills. Impact visibility takes time: At Principal level, contributions are often strategic and long-term, so the value of the work isn’t always immediately visible or celebrated.
