Pros

Interesting problem space. Colleagues are some of the most talented and amazing people. Work has high impact on customers.

Cons

Culture was not great to begin with and is getting worse. Little has been done to address low eNPS scores. The hours are long, the workloads are ridiculous. It’s common for people to work late nights, on weekends, and even during sick days and annual leave. Turnover rates are very high but they never replace the people who leave. Business side get treated badly compared to tech side. You only get treated well if you are an ex-consultant from a top tier firm. Restructures are used as a guise to increase workload and responsibilities without an increase in compensation. They change your position and assign you new responsibilities without consulting you. They don’t care about your professional development or your career goals. Managers and senior leadership have no experience managing people. There is no real leadership within AU. Overseas leaders dictate AU strategy without proper knowledge of the market and won’t listen to local advice due “lack of talent in AU”. They took away all the benefits to be “more in line with the market”. No more wfh allowance, no social spending budget on your card. You have to sell an arm and a leg to get any kind of raise and the pay is already below market rate. CEO likes to be all up in everyone’s business. Lack of clarity around priorities. Work is unstructured and chaotic. Too many hurdles to get the simplest things approved.

below average pay no benefits no leadership from ceo and senior management all the good managers quit or are pushed out ceo yells at team members publicly no product or market strategy dont understand australian market expected to work 9-9-6 no work life balance relies on good pr instead of doing anything actually innovative secretive culture no respect for australian culture

Having been with Airwallex for over a year, it saddens me that you have written a review which in no way reflects all of the outstanding achievements made by both the team and individuals over this time. It also does not acknowledge the significant improvements we have made and continue to make across the business in process, technology, and company culture. Working in a fast-growing business like Airwallex presents daily challenges and I am proud of our team and how tirelessly they work together to build and improve great products. To say that we expect our Melbourne team to work 9-9-6 is false. If you have been advised that this is the expectation, please contact me and let me know who has set this expectation for you. If you or any other team member feels like they are going through hell working at Airwallex, then I suggest you raise this with a member of the leadership team so we can address specific concerns. Writing a review on Glassdoor is your right but it doesn’t enable us to fix anything when we do not have specific information to act upon. Ideally, I would like to personally hear from you so that we can work through these issues together. I would also again like to highlight that any member of the team that has been with us for more than a year has likely contributed to the delivery of great product, cultural change, and is in a position to positively impact the business into the future. Please take this opportunity and work with us to make Airwallex a better place to work.

Pros

- Product is amazing and I have full confidence that if they fix their culture / people issues this company will continue to grow. - Working with a lot of very smart people, they pay people well to get good talent through the door, but people often leave within their first 6-12 months.

Cons

I was warned about the negative culture before I joined, but when I asked about it in the interview they said it's only people who can't work in a high stress, constantly changing environments who doesn't like it. I previously worked at 2 of the biggest scaled up tech companies so knew that wouldn't be a problem for me. However I quickly found out the negative culture is way deeper than that (finger pointing, stepping on each other to get ahead, no care for people, lowest eNPS scores I have ever seen) - Hierarchical structure (the entire c-suite and director leadership team is based in China, not Australia) - CEO calls engineers and workers out in public slack channels when things go wrong (which it does often) - Some employees developed serious mental health issues from bullying and stress coming from management
