Pros

Good product idea and global company.

Cons

Horrible execution, terrible culture, disrespect for local customs, and does not empower employees. Run like a Chinese dictatorship . (Shocker)

Thanks for your review and your positive feedback on our product. As we do not have a Risk department in Melbourne I am unable to determine which leaders this feedback is referring to. Airwallex is an equal opportunity employer and we are proud to have a culturally diverse team. We employ people that we believe will bring value to our business and aim to empower them so that they can offer their unique skills and ideas in a safe and inclusive environment. We are constantly striving to improve our company culture and understand that there is a need to identify what can be globalised, and what needs to be localised. We continue to improve communications across our global teams and make these required changes.

Horrific People Management

Pros

This is a purely development focused review from the development side of the business in Melbourne. HR specifically asked staff to give a review which is a bit of an oxymoron to be honest but here we go. - Growing business - Flexible work hours - Potential Share options

Cons

- Terrible people management. Engineering managers have poor people skills. - No career progression. Always hire externally instead of developing internally. - Culture is fading as development staff are starting to leaving due to being pushed out since new engineering manager started. - Management only criticises staff in a personal negative way. - New memebers of staff leaving quickly after starting due to negative and poorly managed teams. - No diversity 100% male and developer dominated office. All other teams have been moved to another floor.

Thank you for your review. Airwallex has enjoyed rapid growth, particularly over the past 12 months. The engineering team in Melbourne has grown from approx. 15 to 45 people over this period. This fast growth and role requirements has meant that external hiring has been necessary at times, but we are proud that many of the existing team have been promoted into more senior roles and we continue to work to identify those within the team who are ready to step into these leadership roles as they become available. Our team is diverse however we are always looking to find ways to promote more diversity, particularly within our Engineering Team which is heavily male dominated, as is reflected across the industry. If you have any ideas on how we can do this, we would love your input. Due to our rapid growth, we have had to move some teams to another site - this known to be a short-term solution as we work to expand our offices and bring everyone back together again, we made the decision to ensure these teams were housed within the same building so that there was opportunity for everyone to continue working together and socialising as much as possible. We are concerned to read your comments around being personally criticised and would ask that you please speak with a member of the leadership team or the HR Dept about these instances. We want all team members to feel safe and welcomed and feedback such as this will be taken seriously, however, it is impossible for us to address if not raised directly. We are doing our best to create a culture of innovation, high performance, and fun but this relies heavily on the whole team engaging in this goal by contributing to, and helping to drive, positive changes. We hope that you will rise to the challenge and help us identify areas for improvement and ways we can strengthen the business culture. Leaders are limited in their ability to make these changes unless the team is open and honest about their needs and provide constructive feedback, and ideas for optimal solutions. We hope to hear from you soon.

Pros

Most people hired are intelligent albeit mostly from the same background of Bain, McKinsey or BCG.

Cons

The Culture. Backstabbing. Finger pointing. “Due yesterday” mentality. There’s an extreme rush for any output but the politics impedes the ability to rush. We have the dual problem of start-up chaos with large company politics.
