Pros

Work from home, add 1.10 per hours for pay differential if working afternoons. Akron Children’s is an amazing supportive organization as a whole. Great benefits

Cons

Appointment center management/ training team lack effective management skills. Prepare to be uncertain 80% of the time. Instruction always unclear. High turn over rate. The job itself is easy and could be straightforward. Leaderships lack of communication and support which runs good employees away.

Thank you for recognizing the terrific benefits we offer. Through frequent reviews, we work very hard to make sure our pay is market competitive. We also regularly review and refresh our benefits package annually to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our diverse workforce. When it comes to health plans, our consumer-directed health plan is a market leader, as we deposit up to $2,200 annually (depending on your coverage level) into the Health Savings Accounts of employees who choose that plan to support their medical expenses. Ensuring current employees have opportunities to move into supervisory/management/leadership roles is also a priority at Akron Children’s. We offer several avenues for management training/skill development and coaching. We encourage all interested employees to talk with their manager or HR representative about career development opportunities, and we hope you will consider doing so.

Pros

Lots of areas for growth and job opportunities, one pay raise every year, and decent benefits.

Cons

Staff shortages in LOTS of departments, only 2% raise every year, no job retention, staff overwhelmed and overworked.

Akron Children’s recognizes we’re part of a nationwide staffing shortage in health care, and we’ve taken numerous steps to address this issue. While we routinely give employees more than a 2% increase each year, we’ve recently made significant adjustments in compensation for numerous roles across the organization. We’ll continue to review and adjust compensation in other areas to ensure we remain competitive in the marketplace. To address the staffing shortage in key areas, we launched a Helping Hands flexible staffing support program, through which employees receive extra compensation for extra training and work in those areas. Several hundred employees – along with retired nurses – have made clear their commitment to our patients by participating in this program. We now also offer sign-on bonuses for many roles. We will continue to be aggressive and creative in addressing this issue, while also providing staff support through wide-ranging resiliency programs.

Pros

No pros to provide for this company/department

Cons

There are expectations social workers will stay several hours late with no compensation. There is a disconnect between employees and management. Does not appear that this social work department values its employees time or perspective. There is an expectation employees will follow the status quo. I did not see much interest in developing better practices or any self reflection... seems as though the department is very behind the times and only focuses on money, numbers and busy work rather than quality patient care. Close to zero empathy from management when it comes down to what is really going on in patients/families lives.
