Pros

Admirable vision: combine talented neuroscientists and engineers with sustainable funding to make big discoveries about how the brain works in health and disease. Exceptionally talented and affable scientists and support staff.

Cons

Executive, esp. CSO and so-called Directors have no well defined goals, and even less idea and management experience to execute on the vague goals that are defined. As other reviews have noted, fake milestones come and go creating a stressful environment for the hard working scientists and engineers who waste endless hours in pointless meetings without clear priorities or direction. Result: good people are fired without due cause or process, many more leave the institute out of frustration, disgust, their projects fading into the noise of the next meeting.

Pros

-Can be a positive experience if you work with a good scientist -Nice building -Good retirement match

Cons

-Horrible culture, worst work culture I've ever experienced -No accountability -Very little career growth, a lot of staff turnover because there's no room to grow -Poor management across the board (from people managers to senior management) -All talk and no action (specifically around DEI) -Poor work/live balance, made up deadlines and constant push for no reason -No recognition for RAs, there to do the work but receive no recognition/appreciation -Embarrassingly low compensation -Pay inequity, especially for BIPOC and women

Pros

Good 401k, Health insurance, etc People are generally nice

Cons

The administration does not listen to, or seemingly care about, the employees. This is especially true if you’re at the RA level. Without a PhD expect to be treated as a cog in the machine and know that your opinion will not matter to the higher ups. I don’t mean to say that those at the scientist level won’t listen, as they have similar frustrations, but the administration will keep feeding you the same garbage about why you’re actually paid so terribly. Morale is low, turn over is high, CEO/CSO only care about themselves and their reputations.
