Pros

A mixture of top-tier researchers and engineers working on difficult problems to benefit mankind. What else do you want? Collaborative environment, concrete goals, and cutting-edge technology.

Cons

Make sure it aligns with your career goals. Not an entrepreneurial endeavor, and opportunities to rise in management are limited. The different project groups are quite separated, so if you want to try something new but stay within the company, it will require some patience.

Pros

Excellent work/life balance, decent pay, free snacks

Cons

Look for what *meaningful* projects and research have come out of Ai2 in the last two years. They used to be research and academia focused and made AI for the common good a priority. When they changed CEOs they became product focused and went all-in on LLMs. Internally their structure is extremely disorganized and chaotic and they're quietly laying people off. They have a few projects, like EarthRanger, that have a measurable impact in the world but EarthRanger didn't originate in Ai2 and doesn't utilize AI.

Pros

The work and culture at AI2 both reflect its unusual status as a stably-funded non-profit. The work is interesting and motivated by solving interesting problems and bringing useful products to real people. The culture is friendly and academic feeling without being competitive.

Cons

While the location is idyllic in many ways, it's not central, and it's not easy to do things like pop over to the post office at lunchtime, etc.
