Pros

Good, flat pay Interview likely involves 0-1 questions and you're hired on the spot. I held the most important position at my location and the only question I was asked was to explain "something interesting about explosives." Easy work. You might get a nice jacket, 2 polos and 2 khakis if you complain hard and long enough. You're most likely to get whatever sizes they have in stock and to wait months for the next shipment. The polos are poor quality, so don't look forward to that too much.

Cons

There is no compensation for emergencies: hotels, parking, you name it. If you've got to show up at a certain time you've got to show up, or you're likely fired. You're likely to be vilified if you have liberal views. Because people have little to nothing to do, and the company doesn't provide a reason for good work(bonuses, benefits, pep talks, nothing), you can expect a quality of work that is in line with the fast food industry. Don't work for MSA if you have pride in your work, lest you're spoiled. Benefits are non existent. You're working here because it's easy, good money. Period. They like to hire retired cops exclusively, but sometimes they'll pander to military veterans. Don't talk to HR. You'll be singled out and fired at the next opportunity. Talk to your friends at the job, instead. Want to branch out to one of MSA's numerous other job opportunities? Good luck, I've only seen people who are waiting on their 'applications,' which amount to e-mails back and forth with someone you hope can hook you up. Someone's got to take your current position first.

Pros

You get to work a dog, most handlers want to work and take the work seriously.

Cons

Getting paid for work you completed can be a nightmare some handlers wait months when scheduling makes a error and you don’t get paid for a shift to get fixed. Schedule can never be forecasted more then 2-3 days out impossible to make any time for family on that short suspense. Some markets you can’t live off the 26 dollars a hour. Will use your EDC as leverage when they can. Does not pay for split shifts say your a location A then move to next client at location B you’re left high and dry for that hour commute to the next post. Will let you go with a days notice with no paper trail. The problems start at the top with no real chain of command or mamnagment. Training is a joke if it wasn’t for handlers making their own connections with local LEOs it would be literally be months to years with out hitting high explosives (real odor) cons continue too many to list them all

Pros

They'll let you borrow a dog that poops on command.

Cons

MSA is being sued from coast to coast for unpaid wages by hundreds of current and former dog handlers. That should be a big indicator about this company. Management acts like they're auditioning for Goodfellas 2 . They've lost so many handlers in the last year that they have to threaten to take dogs away if employees won't work crazy amounts of overtime. These threats are not baseless. Retired Cops and Veterans have lost their jobs at MSA because they were unable to work because of: 1. They were on company approved vacation and wouldn't cut it short to work. 2. They had custody of their kids on weekends and couldn't work without MSA giving them advance notice. 3. MSA called an hour before a shift started and expected you to "step up", drop everything, and go to work. Scheduleing is a disaster. Pay discrepancies left and right but it's always someone else's job to fix them. Scheduleing will forget to schedule someone at a post and then when the client calls to complain they'll lie and say you were in a car accident or stuck in traffic. Then they'll call you and tell you to go along with the lie or you could lose your post. Upper management is aware of this scheme and have done nothing to reprimand those responsible. You'll fall in love with your dog and the company knows that. They have no issue reminding you that it's their property and they can take it at anytime for any reason.
