Pros

No pros that balance out all the negatives

Cons

Low pay, yearly bonuses, job opportunities. Okay benefits. Heavily micromanaged. Surveillance at all times. Hi-def cameras in every corner of the office, keyloggers secretly installed on computers, monitoring of in-office attendance, open office floorplan where you get accosted for even using the restroom. No sick days. Leadership is not welcoming or helpful, they don't help you grow unless you are a personal friend. Senior leaders are completely out of touch. Morale has sunk so low that communication is impossible because everyone is miserable and overworked. Not worth it. US Bank is hiring for the same pay right now with 100% remote jobs and is a much more prestigious bank. They are everything Ally wishes they could be. Quite a few Ally Alumni have already gotten jobs there.

Pros

This company should only be used for as short of a tenure as possible for a resume builder.

Cons

Employees receive 0 respect from leaders. In my entire career, I have never experienced such egotistical, self serving, inflexible, rude, hypocritical, lack of team motivation and communication skills. Managers are mostly fine and do well to support and encourage their teams. Directors and Sr Directors treat us like garbage. They bark orders at us, never commend us or acknowledge us for a good job, only acknowledge or speak to those that are their favorites which creates a huge division in departments, undermine, and ignore us. They regurgitate every single ridiculous corporate memo and tell us to participate, but then when we try to push the culture or create an initiative/project they stonewall us. My Senior Director literally refuses to acknowledge any communication from those aside from her 3 or 4 favorites across the team. The rest of us she treats us like how dare we have the audacity to speak with her or try and learn from her. How are we supposed to grow and push the positive culture if our own leaders treat us with contempt? Ally only cares about control and not about a supportive culture. Growth here is only available to those who lie, treat others poorly, and step on the backs of their colleagues. All the leaders clearly got there by being a cheap corporate minion and not by actually possessing the skills to successfully lead and motivate a department. All they care about is their poisonous office based stance where they make you work in an office to be subject to embarrassing and degrading office politics and a very clear effort to put the little employee back in their rightful place at the bottom to be treated with contempt and control.

Pros

I have been with Ally since evolved from GMAC. Our CEO JB has undoubtedly grown Ally exponentially in his 7 years as CEO and has a great vision for growing the company. Under his tenure we successfully pulled ourselves out of some bad press with our previous lending practices and the black cloud of our previous bailout and government owned control. The pay is starting to get better but the CEO still makes 388 times more than the average worker.

Cons

We are always talking about innovating, which we do for our products and customers. Sadly we miss the mark on innovating for employees. Somehow, we have never been able to shake the deeply ingrained culture of control and subordination that started with GMAC. Even with all of the growth for inclusiveness, equity, employee owner mindset, and employee growth opportunities, we somehow can't get a grasp on a truly honest, positive, growth culture for all employees. Something is always missing from C level and executive leaders. They are failing at understanding and relating to evolving employee needs. Entry level - mid management are doing their best in employee relations but can't get anywhere due to the lack of respect from those above them. Unfortunately, HR is horrendous and not supportive or caring toward employees at all. There is no open door policy here where feedback is valued and implemented. HR very clearly is only here to support the direction of the board and CEO. The command and control mindset is killing our culture. We have no freedom to make decisions or question the status quo. We are expected to operate without thinking to follow strict orders. That is no way to create an employee owned mindset or foster innovation. Elitism, hypocrisy, and emotional deception from the executive suite is the new norm here. Subordinates are not allowed to be forthcoming and this creates an environment were we can't grow and we don't feel valued and supported by our most senior directors. We are scared for our job security and know that our leaders are only here to support themselves and not their teams. They only care about their bottom line and their success and they will terminate you the second you have your own opinion. Employees that don't mindlessly follow the extreme authority are pushed out. There is no sincerity in employee support and it is just a way to pretend they care to get us to do exactly as they please. Leaders are motivated by power and status and control through fear. We are not going to keep our top performers and highly motivated and competent employees if we can't relate to them and empower them.
