Pros

The only Pros of working here right out of college were that it required strong time management skills and got me more comfortable talking on the phone with people.

Cons

It makes me truly sad to see some of the reviews posted here now where people are saying the working hours are "not that bad". They are HORRIBLE. Since when is 8-6:30 an acceptable schedule - especially when you're never really unplugged. It is an extremely competitive and stressful environment. Super fast paced, which can be a good thing, but not when it is constantly at 110% and you're expected to be reachable all the time. I once had a family emergency and needed to work from home for a day or two (pre-COVID) and it was such an issue. I was almost not allowed to do it, and when they finally agreed they told me to keep it hush hush so other employees wouldn't know and get jealous. There is little to no respect for the fact that we are human beings and have lives, families, etc. outside of this job. I felt COMPLETELY burnt out after working here. I was constantly stressed and made to feel like I wasn't doing enough. The boundaries between my work and personal life were completely blurred. I want to be clear - these were not issues of a poor work ethic. I am an extremely hard worker, good at managing my time, detail oriented, and a team player. I have never had issues like this in any other job, but AS literally sucked the life out of me and I'm surprised I made it as long as I did in this job. I was truly miserable.

Thank you for sharing your honest views. We are upfront that the client service role is fast-paced and that our industry is highly competitive. The role can be challenging, and your team is there to support you. If issues arise, we encourage all employees to discuss them with their managers. On a positive note, we are pleased to hear that you acquired foundational commercial and client service skills such as time management. Best of luck in your career. - The AlphaSights Team

Pros

young company and fun outings/ people to work with, good PTO, good training and development for a first time job, good career progression if you can stand doing the job long enough

Cons

Job is very repetitive, boring and unrewarding. Long hours- say the workday is 8-6 but often times found myself working much much later to try to complete everything I was assigned to do in a day. You experience at AlphaSights is very team dependent and you have no say what team you will be placed on. Performance pay is the same across teams but some teams have a much easier time hitting their hurdles and getting this pay than others- compensation is not necessarily reflective of hard work. Management is too young and can make the work environment feel like a high school at times. Very high turnover and burnout because the work itself honestly just sucks.

We're glad to hear you enjoyed the community at AlphaSights, and are sorry to hear that some aspects of the experience like the working hours did not meet your expectations. The associate role involves intense, high-frequency project work, and repetition is critical to learning and improving in any domain, as it takes hours and practice to get good at something. We appreciate that the role isn't for everyone and wish you all the best. - The AlphaSights Team

Pros

The job has a clear path to mgmt and gives a great deal of structure to new grads to progress in a role out of college. In a sense it’s the perfect first job out of college (clear metrics, young fun people, ability to get promoted in 2 years into mgmt and clear metrics to determine that!)

Cons

They have an AlphaSights mold that they clearly want people fitting into i.e having emotional humility when frustrated about something and a “feedback culture” that honestly transcends into daily life and is quite toxic. Essentially you have weekly meetings with managers or trainers who give pointed feedback and they claim feedback can be positive but in general feedback is inherently negative. Can take a toll on self- esteem. -within that ^^ they literally asked people to write Glassdoor reviews to promote hiring and the brand which is why you see so many more positive reviews in the last few months to contrast the beginning of reviews. - it’s working nearly consulting hours without the pay of consulting.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! I'm glad that you're pleased with our career trajectory path. We hire candidates based on their potential to become (i) Managers running sizable teams after two years, (ii) VPs leading multi-million-business-units after five years, and (iii) senior firm leaders in a multi-thousand employee high-growth business after eight years. I hope I've addressed your concerns below: Regarding our feedback culture, I'm sorry to hear you've found our culture of feedback toxic as we give and receive feedback in the spirit of personal growth and professional development. While hearing constructive feedback can sting a little for anyone (including myself!) we actively train managers in how to provide fair and actionable feedback that benefits rather than hurts the recipient. We also make it a point to provide positive feedback as well and while I would hope that was also part of your experience, I'm sorry to hear it wasn't. We ask everyone to provide feedback to their managers (including our co-CEOs and myself) because feedback (like this) helps everyone better themselves, regardless of how senior they are. You are right, we do ask our employees to write Glassdoor reviews but we never tell or ask them what to write or ask they be positive. We greatly value the feedback we receive in the office and online. Regarding salary: Our financial compensation package includes three elements: base salary, incentive pay, and company growth plan - it is designed to reward personal revenue impact and longer-term skill development. The total compensation we offer Associates is competitive with the packages of the big four consulting firms. Because our Associates have more personal revenue impact than their peers at professional services firms, our total compensation is weighted more towards incentive pay, and less towards base salary. Regarding role description: We are always looking to fine-tune our job descriptions to ensure we're attracting the right people to the associate role. As a result I respectfully disagree that the role is a consulting role and in fact we've gone to great lengths in recent years to highlight the role is NOT consulting based on feedback we've received. In fact we state very clearly that we are NOT a consulting job: we do NOT provide advice to our clients, but connect our clients with experts who have the knowledge our clients seek. Regarding hours: Delivering terrific client experiences takes great care, time and work. However, we try our best to help team members have flexibility within these requirements and consistently hear feedback from our team members that the flexibility we offer in the evening given our location on the West Coast affords much higher levels of flexibility than those in consulting or banking. Our roles can be demanding and while we can't say work life harmony is one of the hallmarks of the role, we certainly try to make it work! Thanks for taking the time to share your perspective.
