Overworked and Underpaid

Pros

I enjoyed what I thought the company stood for. I also love some of the connections I made. I really wish I could write more.

Cons

I worked here for a year and a half. I was told by the store manager who hired me that I would be promoted within six months. After six months, my store manager left me. She failed to teach me anything I needed and told me about how at Summit, they were asked to write nice reviews to push down the negative ones. She was leaving because she felt the company didn't truly care about their people. I wasn't sent another store manager to train me and my DM only visited once with upper management. I overworked and was underpaid from May until July, having corporate visits that went well (with promise that I would be promoted soon). I didn't get any compensation for running the store. I didn't expect it, because I expected a promotion. Instead, I was pushed back down to an assistant with a store manager who was "trained" for two weeks in other stores. She was from outside of the company, despite being told that they really love promoting within. She was a terrible manager, due to her setting up the store team against each other and pinning anything that was wrong on anyone but herself. She would work 60 hour work weeks with nothing to show because she wasn't doing anything. She spent hours on the store phone with other store managers, just talking (I witnessed these conversations 5 out of 7 days a week). She wasn't about team building, which I think is what Altard State should be looking for. She pushed me down in my development and talked negatively about me to all of upper management. The sad part is, it seemed like not one DM or VDM ever came to even see my work ethic. They just took her word until our recent change of DM, which by that point, I had already began my journey to secure another job. I feel like I was put in a role without the proper pay, and then after I built an entire team, it was ripped away for someone who was not a quality manager from outside of the company. I really hope that Altard State doesn't put other ASM's in this position, because it's not a good feeling and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Thank you for your submission. Reading your review was very concerning and we apologize for your experience. As a seven year old company, we are promoting from within often and have District Managers, Buyers, Assistant Buyers, Marketing team members, and Store Operations staff all promoted from within. Investing in two District Managers per district was intended to provide a greater focus on people and their development. Unfortunately, this does not seem to have happened. I would be very open to speaking to better understand how we may improve the experience and thank you for your honesty. Have a great day and we hope that you will continue to stand out for good within your community.

Thank you for your honest feedback. While retail hours are sometimes demanding and meant to provide an exceptional experience for our guests, work life balance is as important. I am sorry that you did not feel comfortable raising your concerns, as we want every associate to have a voice and the ability to improve the workplace. While our on-line training is critical in preparing our associates for interactions with our guests, this should not replace in store training and development with store managers. Happy to connect if you would like to discuss further and thank you again!
