Pros

You will meet your best friends here. The people in your store will become your family (for the time you are there) Good Discount Position looks good on resume

Cons

You end up spending all your money there, the eventually realize how absolutely terrible the clothing quality is. You can not wash ANYTHING from there or it will shrink. You will spend every minute of your life in your store, or thinking about what's going on in your store. You can not have a social life. You will never see your family or friends. You will work several 10 hour shifts a week. Your SM will also expect you to stay late every shift. You basically have to come up with an excuse to be able to leave at your scheduled shift time. Floorsets and refreshes were scheduled almost every 2 weeks which is absolutely insane for any retail company. You will be at the store until 5am moving one personality to another room, only to have to switch it back 2 weeks later. Floorsets you sometimes have to work 15 hour shifts, where you feel like you are going to black out or throw up, but your SM won't let you leave until you are finished. I don't know if anyone realizes that their clothes are marked up sometimes over 700%. The cost for most of their shirts and dresses are purchased at around $10-13 cost, and are being sold for $70-80, which is absolutely absurd. I get they want to donate a percentage to their give back, but you are absolutely ripping off your customers and employees. 45 hour work weeks turn into 55 hour work weeks. You can't ever leave, there is always more demanded of you. The CEO will announce visits and then never show up. You end up staying several hours after your shift making sure the store is perfect, or waiting for him to come, and he never comes. Or expects you to show up several hours early the next day for him. Don't even get me started with setup for Semi Annual Sale. You will be cursing the entire time, threatening to quit. You have to markdown 90% of the store in one night, and then do an entire floorset. It will easily take you a full 24 hours to complete. God bless you if you don't quite after that. They then come and visit your stores right after and will YELL at you if it's not perfect. Why don't some of the executives come and help us do markdowns, stay with us until 9am and then come back for our shift at noon. The store managers LOVE the company, and will brainwash you into thinking it's the best company in the world, but it is just brainwashing. It is Extreme lack of communication from DMs. It takes at least an hour to close at night, sometimes 2, which makes no sense. You will always be the last store to leave your shopping center at night. Tighten up that closing procedure so we can actually get home at a decent time. Do you really need me to write an inspirational story? These things are a waste of my time that they already have taken so much of.

Are the leaders religious or is marketing?

Pros

--New Home Office --Great Co-Workers

Cons

--HR is useless. I went to HR in the past and Aaron Walkers called me out in a meeting infront of my entire team. I will never go to HR again --I have never heard more cussing from a leadership at any company --CEO got drunk at a Christmas party and started giving away cars of other leaders. --Great places to work is a scam. Review poorly and they will hunt for you. It is not anonymous, do not trust HR when they say it is --Aaron Walters threw a controller during a meeting, while screaming at the top of his lungs --Charge $30 to use the new on-site gym --Layoffs are hidden under poor performance --The Christianity is all marketing

Pros

I made some incredible friendships with some amazing women. Many of the reviews state that compensation is great, but rest assured, the pay is not worth the mental abuse that you put up with when employed by this brand.

Cons

When I joined the Altar'd State brand 3 years ago, I quickly fell in love with the values, culture, and mission of the organization. Loved the Executive Leadership Team and my District Leaders. I enjoyed working with guests, the beautiful store environment, and leading and developing my team. While the standards to be successful were high, I felt like if you worked hard and were committed, you were set up for success. As a store and team, we achieved every goal set before us. My store ranked extremely high on the GPTW survey, Top 10 on the monthly Healthcheck, Passed every Internal Audit, Top ranked on Secret Shops, and more... We consistently exceeded all expectations and worked hard to create an environment for internal and external guests that was unparalleled to any other store or brand. Having said that, the culture has rapidly deteriorated over the last 18 months. While my team continued to meet and exceed goals, the Executive Leadership (including the CEO) became intolerable. Expectations went from being manageable to being unattainable. Perfection is expected in every aspect of business. The brand has gone from a culture of learning and engagement to one of stress and intimidation. If business dips for any reason or if you are late delivering on a deadline, you will be ridiculed. If you ask questions in an effort to understand, you are told to stop being negative. Personal attacks (being told that you don't care enough) became the norm. Mandatory Weekly Friday calls, hosted by the CEO, went one of two ways. Some were extremely motivating, others were gripe sessions about "Entitled Women" or "Entitled Americans" or, better yet, personal attacks on specific Store Leaders or Leader Teams. Often times, As a Store Leader, I spent my Friday doing "damage control " with my Assistants and Brand Reps that were subjected to his hate speech. In my 20+ years of retail, I have never been made to feel so incredibly defeated until I joined this organization. All because I asked a question about our candidate screening process. After that, I was made a target on a weekly All Store Call. A grown man (the CEO) made a conscious decision that he would publicly ridicule a dedicated Store Leader that has given years of her life to grow the Altar'd State brand. One month I was being asked to promote by the VPs, the next, I was resigning because of the abuse that they were subjecting me to. I have held off for months on writing my review because of the retaliation that I know will follow, but I can not remain silenced any longer. While the mission of Altar'd State remains true (#1 giveback company in the world), the method to accomplish lacks human decency.
