Pros

Flexibility. Flexibility. Flexibility. The core values seem honest and very close to the standards I already have in place for myself. Great retirement package. PTO is fair. Stock options exsist. Being paperless at some point will be a plus but doesn't feel that way right now. Book club for employees- Bill Borne will reimburse you the cost of any books you purchase as long as you return it to a library in your office. Hopefully the fairness/respect balance will improve in our office with Amedisys in place. Their online studies, inservice & education program are great. Makes inservices a treat.

Cons

Recently we were purchased by Amedisys so there are significant growing pains at our office. Not enough reimbursement for gas mileage. Feel that there orientation of new staff to new system could be more thorough. Employee morale in in the garbage right now & I feel this is something that should also me considered when you are acquiring new companies. Recently HHA's were given a bonus & no other staff which really is not fair when your thanking someone for doing a good job, everyone should be thanked. Very difficult finding a balance between work & home life when case managing, but this is not specific to Amedisys- an issue with Home Care in general.

Pros

Great ethics; good ideas; positive corporate environment. CEO Bill Borne is an inspiration and a power-house.

Cons

They are growing way too fast; can't keep track of leadership and management deficits at the (local) agency level. Many incompetent people hold jobs at that level. Amedisys seems determined to remain a Medicare-only company, but 68% of the over-65 population in my area are on managed plans, not Medicare. Mileage for nurses and BD people are the lowest in the entire industry.

Pros

Great benifits and good stock options. There are great ways to move up in the company (IF THEY ALLOW IT).

Cons

As a manager you could be short staffed for months trying to get a nurse through the system to get her started and trained. This is hard on all the other nurses working overtime until the new nurse gets started. A lot of red tape to get your new employees up and going. Once you are in a position those above you can keep you there and squash your rights to move up in the company. If you are doing too good of a job then why let you move up? if you move up it is not benificial directly to your boss but another part of the company. Patient care can be lacking if nurses are tired and they will not allow you to employee enough nurses to do the job right..... bottom line.... money comes first. As a nurse I dont feel that patient care is top notch like it could be. Pay for prn starts and other visits is BAD when compared with other companys in tulsa. Pay is up to 40.00 lower for a start. This makes it hard to get PRN nurses.
