Pros

If you like to fly and enjoy the flight benefits then it makes sense to work for American, especially if you like to fly international or have family abroad. Also, if you like to analyze everything then this would be an ideal place for you to work!

Cons

If you are a forward thinker, then you may get frustrated by the "we have always done it this way" answer to everything! It's definitely about who you know and not what you know, so the best networkers will advance, while the most talented go undiscovered, unnoticed, and unappreciated!

Pros

Great company with many opportunities to advance your career. I graduated from college last year and came on in May. Everyone that I have met and/or work with has been super supportive in helping me learn the business. The industry has such a complex structure and the economics are a little crazy, but it is a great place to learn the ropes in the corporate world. Fortunately, I am working for a great boss who understands the importance of work-life balance. I always feel appreciated for putting in extra time and receive much thanks when going above and beyond.

Cons

Slightly lower than market average pay, however, flight benefits make up for it. Sometimes that corporate culture is a little solid and it's hard to get people to do things differently. A lot of people have worked for the company for decades, so they tend to be stuck in their own way of doing things. Working for a company that provides a service to consumers sometimes gets frustrating because you here a lot of negative comments by customers who usually never understand the big picture. We are certainly not out there to make miserable, so hearing complaints can get rather annoying.

Pros

The airline industry is an exciting place to work. Many and changing dynamics : competitors, government regulations, economic realities, weather

Cons

The company and entire industry are severely impacted by commodity schemes and political-government grandstanding and overmanagement.
