Impossible Workload and Low Pay

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Somewhat flexible hours during summer and early fall. Nice products

Cons

The workloads are completely impossible to do in the time allotted. The only way to get the job done is to go well over the assigned hours (which is not allowed), or work off the clock. The most ridiculous requirement was the seasonal resets, which occur at the start of every holiday. Part-time merchandisers are expected to remove and discard the hundreds of remaining cards, put out all of the new product, set up several sidecaps, sideracks, and displays, all in one day. This is impossible for one person to do in one day, even though it is all supposed to be done in a few hours. On the few occasions where management sent a helper, it still took 8 hours to complete. I never went over hours at this company, and my department wound up being a wreck. The only people getting the job done are getting help or working off the clock. It's just not worth it working so few hours, for so little pay.

Poor Experience

Pros

Benefits and a Starbucks inside.

Cons

Workplace culture was like a factory. Our trainer was our manager and he was neither patient nor good at relaying information. Sometimes his comments were genuinely insulting but the other employees would ignore it and pretend it wasn't an issue. Pretty early on we learned that if you ask too many questions you will look incompetent and be treated as such. Felt like a child in a strict boarding school.

Pros

Independent work if you like to not be micro managed on a daily basis

Cons

They never give u enough time to complete work. If you go over allotted hours you get "ding-ed" . I was one of the top merchs. in area brought two huge stores to top sales. Never had support from my boss or his boss or anyone. They don't go to bat for you if there are issues as stores you work (and that happens ALL the time). You are low man and you will know it. Communication is horrible and you will be the first blamed and fired. Corporate owners just changed so maybe they can get their crud together. I apparently resigned without my knowledge! Awful company to work for if you do merchandising.
