Pros

I’ve worked at American Systems, full time, for about a year and can honestly say its one of the best companies out there. I feel like the managers truly do care about their people. We have weekly and daily meetings to get updates on work, but also to get a mental check on how everyone is handling their workload. If you feel overwhelmed, you have a safe place to say something (and I have said something at times, and they do what they can to get you help). The Orlando office feels like a family to me. I truly love the people I work with and we have a lot of fun in the office. The Orlando office also offers a flex schedule, which is awesome! And if I ever feel like I need to get away from distractions in the office, they allow people to work from home. I also feel like I have a say in what’s going on around me in the office. We hold a meeting every two weeks where we talk about everything that went well in our two-week sprint, as well as what did not go well and what we can do to fix those issues. This meeting is a safe space to bring up anything, and after being here a year, I’ve seen quite a few changes happen in the office because of discussions in those meetings.

Cons

We have quite a bit of work, so we need more people!

Pros

American Systems is an employee-owned large company. The relatively small size of our local office fosters a small business/family feel, while still having the resources and reachback capability of the large process-oriented company it is, being CMMI-DEV Level 3 assessed and ISO 9001:2015 certified. There is a focus on work/life balance, and a culture of mutual respect and accountability. There are opportunities for training and advancement; I have moved up in the organization twice in my time here. The benefits are pretty good. There is an employee-funded 401(k) and a company-funded ESOP, for which the annual company contribution is more than you would ever get for 401(k) matching at any other company, and only has a 3-year vesting schedule. Holidays are rolled into the PTO, so you have the freedom to choose when to take your holidays, or save the time for other purposes. The health coverage includes an HSA with company contributions and is comparable to that of other defense contractors. Dental and vision coverage are available. There is tuition reimbursement, and company paid LTD and Life.

Cons

The only downside that is worth mentioning is that the health plan could be better. It's a CDHP with HSA, which is typical in today's marketplace, but also means high deductibles. The company contribution to the HSA helps offset those costs, though.
