Pros

If you want to continue your education, Amgen is a great place to work. The company pays $10,000 a year in tuition reimbursement. I haven't heard of any other company that equals this benefit. Amgen provides three weeks vacation and two weeks of holiday shutdown a year. The company also provides good health benefits including a company gym. Amgen matches employee 401K contributions up to 10%. They also allow some employees to telecommute from home one or two days a week .

Cons

The company grew so fast that people were being promoted every couple of years whether they deserved it or not. This lead to a situation where people were promoted into management positions even though they were not management material. A lot of people have left the company because of poor managment. Those of us that are still there are subjected to some managers that are incompetent and behave in an immoral and unethical fashion. There are a lot of situations where a lower level employee has zero visibility and chance for advancement because higher level employees take all the credit for work they didn't perform. Due to favoritism that takes place in some departments, an atmosphere is created wherein employees that are being abused feel that they can't take any action for fear of being fired. The opportunities for advancement are very limited now due to the current company environment.

Pros

The benefits and the big company recognition for future positions. Lots of growth potential that may not be present at a smaller company. Good company culture, even with recent lay offs. Lots of vacation time and good work/life balance!

Cons

Huge company and you can easily get lost in the crowd. You see a certain level of politics, which is common in large companies. There is still some dead weight type people around even with recent layoffs. In general everyone has to worker harder after cut backs, which is good.
