Leadership is MIA

Pros

Lots of great people. Meaningful work with a noble mission. Great work/life balance. Plenty of opportunity to grow and learn. The culture has improved significantly over the past two years. This would be the coolest place in the world to work if management would simply show up to the party.

Cons

Absolutely zero leadership. I have been in the industry for a very long time and have never witnessed such a complete void of any sort of leadership. It's not even fair to say "poor" leadership because there is literally no sign of it. Anywhere. Whatsoever. Joel pops his head in once or twice a year. Great guy with a meaningful vision but nowhere to be found. CTO Josh has been missing in action for months (does he still work here?) "One Amplify" was "announced" months ago and there has been no tangible follow through. Now it seems that we are on the auction block and still no sign of a leader as far as the eye can see. Are they all out on interviews?

Pros

Now that we now News Corp is abandoning Amplify, the personnel cuts are going to be coming fast and furious. It's being communicated that absolutely nobody is safe and the reduction will be very large. Everyone is tiptoeing around wondering when the hatchet will fall, and who will go down first. The only bright spot in what will doubtless be a devastating round of layoffs is the hope that the entire cadre of executive leadership will be forced out by the new management.

Cons

It's amusing to imagine how poorly this bad news is going to be handled by this incompetent company. It's unpleasant enough to lay off hundreds of people, but doing so *badly* makes the experience exponentially more painful. Doubtless there will be very, very little communication about it, and what communication there *is* will be vague, meaningless and insulting. I think many of us, if/when we are let go, will be interested in figuring out how to evaluate management competence before we sign on the dotted line for our next gigs.

Pros

Amplify is up for sale. Perhaps this will help. It could give the company the fresh start it needs to be successful once again. But, I doubt it.

Cons

Amplify is up for sale. Management has not told us much about the sale other than Amplify and News Corp have decided to part ways and another education company plus some upper level Amplify management are interested in making a major investment in Amplify. However, after shutting down an underperforming product on Monday, without any transition plan for existing customers using the product or sales deep in the pipeline, I think the company is being positioned for bankruptcy in case the sale falls apart.
